Power 5 Notes

  • Colorado RB Travon McMillian has rushed for at least 100 yards and a touchdown in three of four games this year.  With the amount of touches that WR Laviska Shenault is getting, he will be difficult to leave out of the Top 5 WR rankings every week.
  • I mentioned on the show this past week that I like RB Travis Etienne more now that Trevor Lawrence is the quarterback…203 yards and three touchdowns against Syracuse.
  • Georgia Tech QB TaQuon Marshall wasn’t the fantasy force I expected him to be against Bowling Green, accounting for only two of the team’s eight offensive touchdowns.
  • Boston College RB AJ Dillon left Saturday’s game against Temple with an ankle injury and did not return.  We’ll have to monitor his status for this week’s game at NC State.
  • Oklahoma State WR Landon Wolf’s numbers against Kansas will grab some attention (6-116-1), but Dillon Stoner did miss the game with an injury, so I’m not ready to jump on Wolf.
  • Kansas RB Pooka Williams has rushed for 89 yards or more in four straight games.
  • Michigan State WR Cody White will likely miss a few weeks with a broken hand.  Expect Felton Davis to be targeted more often.
  • Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond delivered a disappointing fantasy performance against Arkansas, failing to account for a touchdown, rushing for only 14 yards, and throwing two interceptions.
  • West Virginia WRs David Sills and Gary Jennings have two multiple score games this season, but Marcus Simms is the only one of the trio with more than one 100-yard receiving game.  He has topped the 100-yard mark in three consecutive games.  RB Kennedy McKoy has rushed for at least 70 yards in three consecutive games.
  • We are awaiting an announcement on the extent of Texas Tech QB Alan Bowman’s injury.  Bowman was taken to the hospital for further evaluation after leaving the game against West Virginia with an injury.  —Update—  Bowman was reported to have a partially collapsed lung.
  • NC State WR Kelvin Harmon has at least six receptions and 90 yards receiving in three straight games.
  • Oklahoma RB Kennedy Brooks received his first carries since Week 1 and ran for 107 yards and 2 TDs against Baylor.
  • Georgia RB D’Andre Swift scored two touchdowns in Saturday’s win against Tennessee, but still does not have a 100-yard game.
  • Florida State RB Cam Akers had 42 yards on 17 carries against Louisville.  His 82 rushing yards in the season opener is his season high.
  • Louisville QB Jawon Pass threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns, but I’m not looking to add him back onto my roster.
  • It was a big week for Vanderbilt WR Kalija Lipscomb, who caught nine passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t a big week if you had the Vanderbilt defense against Tennessee State.  RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn has now scored in four consecutive games.
  • Auburn RB JaTarvious Whitlow left Saturday’s game against Southern Miss in the second quarter with an upper-body injury.  Hopefully, on Monday we will get a status update.  Kam Martin finished with 90 yards on 24 carries.
  • Michigan RB Karan Higdon has scored a TD in every game in which he has played this year and and topped the 100-yard rushing mark in three consecutive games.
  • It seems as if John Moten will taken over as Northwestern’s lead back and Solomon Vault has moved from WR to RB.  Vault had seven carries for 18 yards against Michigan.
  • Washington State WR Easop Winston has scored in four of five games and has topped the 100-yard mark in back-to-back games.
  • Would Mississippi State consider moving on from QB Nick Fitzgerald and let Keytaon Thompson play?  Just a thought.
  • The return of Duke QB Daniel Jones means that Quintin Harris is no longer needed on fantasy rosters.
  • Virginia Tech QB Ryan Willis passed for 332 yards and three touchdowns in a road win at Duke.  RB Steven Peoples has scored in three consecutive games.
  • Penn State QB Trace McSorley has accounted for at least three touchdowns in four of five games.
  • Notre Dame RB Dexter Williams will be one of the hottest waiver names this week after rushing for 161 yards and a touchdown.  Williams was likely drafted and dropped after rumors of his suspension made news before the season opener.
  • Stanford WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside has caught a TD pass in four of five games.
  • Ole Miss RB Scottie Phillips has rushed for at least 90 yards and a touchdown in four of five games this year.
  • LSU RB Nick Brossette has carried the ball at least 19 times in every game.  Clyde Edwards-Helaire has scored in four consecutive games.
  • As I mentioned on last week’s show, I saw Arizona State RB Eno Benjamin coming from a mile away.  I didn’t see Oregon State RB Jermar Jefferson’s 254-yard rushing performance at Arizona State coming.
  • In PPR-formats, USC RB Stephen Carr was the team’s third-best fantasy back against Arizona.
  • Oregon WR Dillon Mitchell’s stock has shot up quickly after Oregon’s last two games (21-344-1). He only had six receptions after the first three games of 2018.  RB CJ Verdell did suffer an MCL injury, which isn’t believed to be serious, but whether or not he misses any time is unknown.  True freshman RB Travis Dye ran for a team-high 115 yards and a TD in the Ducks’ 42-24 win over Cal.

Group 5 Notes

  • Tulane RB Darius Bradwell has scored in three straight games and has topped the 90-yard rushing mark in three of the last four (31 yards at Ohio State).
  • Bowling Green RB Andrew Clair didn’t play much against Georgia Tech.  Apparently, he has a leg injury.  WR Quintin Morris was banged up, too.
  • Temple RB Ryquell Armstead has now gone over 100 yards rushing in four straight games.
  • Buffalo WR KJ Osborn has been a better fantasy option than teammate Anthony Johnson, who missed Saturday’s game against Army with a leg injury.
  • UL Monroe QB Caleb Evans has been very inconsistent this season, a trend which may continue with the Warhawks playing on the road over the next two weeks, at Ole Miss and Coastal Carolina.
  • Rice RB Austin Walter has scored three TDs in the past two games, has rushed for at least 80 yards in three of five games, and has caught at least four passes in three of five games.
  • Western Michigan WR D’Wayne Eskridge returned to action and caught seven passes for 141 yards against Miami (OH), but it was Jayden Reed who stole the show with seven receptions for 137 yards and four touchdowns.  Reed has caught at least seven passes for 100 yards and a TD in three of five games.
  • Jack Sorenson seems to be the replacement for James Gardner in the Miami (OH) passing game.
  • Old Dominion RB Jeremy Cox has 20 rushing attempts in back-to-back games.  WR Jonathan Duhart has topped 100 yards in four straight games.
  • South Alabama WR Kawaan Baker with eight touchdowns in five games.
  • Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder has accounted for at least three touchdowns in three consecutive games.  RB Michael Warren has four multiple-TD games and three 100-yard games.
  • UCF WR Dredrick Snelson apparently didn’t practice much last week and I don’t think he played against Pitt.
  • Coastal Carolina RB Marcus Outlow has scored in four consecutive games.  RB Torrance Marable has scored in three of the last four games.
  • Troy RB BJ Smith has scored in four of five games this year.
  • Southern Miss WR Quez Watkins has scored in every game this year.
  • Air Force QB Isaiah Sanders did not play in Saturday’s game against Nevada.
  • Northern Illinois RB Tre Harbison has rushed for at least 100 yards in two of the last three games.
  • New Mexico RB Tyrone Owens has scored in three of four games and has rushed for at least 93 yards in the past two games.
  • Arkansas State QB Justice Hansen has accounted for 13 touchdowns in five games, but has has failed to account for more than two TDs in a game three times already in 2018.  Last year, Hansen accounted for three or more TDs in nine of twelve games.
  • San Jose State WR Bailey Gaither has topped the 90-yard receiving mark in three of four games.
  • Boise State WR AJ Richardson has topped the 70-yard receiving mark and caught a TD in three straight games.  WR John Hightower has scored in three straight games.
  • Wyoming RB Nico Evans returned from injury and ran for 141 yards and a touchdown against Boise State.
  • Middle Tennessee RB Brad Anderson ran for 51 yards and a TD in a 25-24 win over FAU.  Anderson has caught at least five passes in every game this year.  RB Tavares Thomas returned from injury and rushed for 30 yards, caught four passes, and scored two touchdowns.
  • UAB RB Spencer Brown has carried the ball at least 18 times in every game and is on pace to top last year’s ten touchdowns.
  • UTEP QB Kai Locksley has carried the ball at least 18 times in four of five games and has scored a rushing TD in three of five games.
  • Louisiana Tech WR Adrain Hardy has at least 73 receiving yards in every game this season and has scored in three of four games.  I don’t have an update on RB Jaqwis Dancy, who did not seem to play against North Texas.
  • Holding on to North Texas WR Jalen Guyton is a judgement call.  Rico Bussey is the fantasy hog in the Mean Green passing game.
