Power 5 Notes

  • Georgia Tech QB TaQuon Marshall has three 100-yard rushing games this season and has rushed for at least one TD in every game.  He has accounted for at least two TDs in all but one game.  RB Jordan Mason has scored three touchdowns in the past two games.
  • Louisville QB Jawon Pass has passed for at least 299 yards and two TDs in back-to-back games.
  • BYU RB Squally Canada was questionable going into Friday’s game against Utah State and finished with -1 rushing yard on three carries.  Expect TE Matt Bushman to be heavily involved in the passing game over the second half of the season.
  • Illinois RB Reggie Corbin has rushed for a touchdown in four of five games this year.  QB AJ Bush has started and finished two games this season and has rushed for over 100 yards in each game.

  • Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray has accounted for at least three touchdowns in each of the last five games and has accounted for at least 4 TDs in four of the last five.
  • Michigan RB Karan Higdon has rushed for 100 yards in four straight games, but was held out of the end zone for the first time this season against Maryland.
  • Northwestern WR Flynn Nagel has 36 receptions this season, but has not caught a TD pass.  The Wildcats beat the Spartans despite rushing for only 10 yards.  Solomon Vault and Drake Anderson combined for six carries before John Moten got a rushing attempt.
  • One of the more impressive stats from Week 6:  Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa completed ten passes for 334 yards for a 33.4 yards per completion average.
  • Syracuse QB Eric Dungey has six rushing touchdowns in the past three games.
  • NC State RB Reggie Gallaspy has scored in every game this season and topped the 100-yard mark for the first time in 2018.
  • Clemson RB Travis Etienne has rushed for at least 120 yards in four straight games and has scored in every game this season.
  • Wake Forest QBs completed only 7-of-27 pass attempts against Clemson.
  • I’m curious to know how many rosters in Full FBS re-draft leagues still have Florida State RB Cam Akers.  WR Tamorrion Terry has caught a TD pass in three straight games.
  • Miami QB N’Kosi Perry has passed for at least three touchdowns in three different games this year.  WR Jeff Thomas led the team with 76 receiving yards after catching only one pass in three of the team’s previous four games.  The Miami backfield has become too unpredictable.
  • Iowa State freshman QB Brock Purdy replace Zeb Noland and passed for 318 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-42 win at Oklahoma State.  He’ll likely remain the starter.
  • Oklahoma State QB Taylor Cornelius has accounted nine touchdowns in the past two games.
  • Iowa QB Nate Stanley has thrown for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns in three consecutive games.
  • Minnesota WR Tyler Johnson has three 100-yard receiving games this season.

  • Kansas State RB Alex Barnes has scored a touchdown in three of the Wildcats’ last four games.
  • Arizona State RB Eno Benjamin has carried the ball at least 26 times in the past three games.
  • Colorado WR Laviska Shenault has caught at least ten passes in four of five games this season.  He has caught a TD pass in every game and has run for a TD in three of five games.  RB Travon McMillian has rushed for 100 yards in four of five games.
  • Indiana RB Stevie Scott hasn’t rushed for 70 yards in a game since the Hoosiers started conference play.  He had 70 yards or more in each of the first three games.
  • Ohio State WR Parris Campbell has caught a TD in all but one game and has caught at least seven passes in each of the past three games.  QB Dwayne Haskins has thrown at least four TD passes in four of six games.  RB JK Dobbins has scored a rushing TD in three straight games.
  • Ole Miss RB Scottie Phillips has run for a TD in five of six games.  WR DK Metcalf has scored in five of six games and WR AJ Brown scored for the first time since September 8th, when Ole Miss hosted Southern Illinois.
  • I recommended benching Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez and he had a career high 384 yards passing at Wisconsin and accounted for three touchdowns.  WR JD Spielman has caught a TD pass in four of five games and has at least nine receptions in each of the past two games.
  • Washington WR Aaron Fuller has four 100-yard games and has caught at least six passes in four of six games.
  • UCLA RB Joshua Kelley has rushed for 100 yards in two consecutive games.
  • Georgia RB D’Andre Swift has scored three touchdowns in the past two games, but still has not had a 100-yard rushing game.  WR Riley Ridley has caught at least four passes in three consecutive games and has scored in four of five games.  WR Mecole Hardman has caught at least four passes in four of six games, but has not scored in the past two games after scoring in each of the first four.
  • Vanderbilt WR Kalija Lipscomb was held to fewer than nine receptions for the first time since the season opener against MTSU.
  • Just when I was ready to write off Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald, he runs for 195 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn.  Kylin Hill was heavily involved in the offense for the first time since Week 2, carrying the ball 23 times for 126 yards.
  • Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham has only accounted for seven touchdowns in six games.
  • In his two games back, Notre Dame RB Dexter Williams has rushed for 339 yards and four touchdowns.  WR Miles Boykin has been a different player the past two weeks, catching 19 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns.  He had a total of nine receptions in the first four games.
  • Virginia Tech WR Damon Hazelton has a TD reception in all five games in which he has played and has three 100-yard receiving games.
  • Washington State WR Easop Winston has at least 99 yards receiving in three straight games, WR Davontavean Martin has scored in four of the last five games, and RB James Williams has at least 4 receptions in five of six games.  QB Gardner Minshew has at least three TD passes in four of five games.
  • In the past five games, Oregon State RB Jermar Jefferson has rushed for at least 100 yards four times, rushed for at least 200 yards twice, and scored a total of 12 touchdowns.
  • Cal QB Brandon McIlwain is worth a waiver wire claim, but his dual-threat ability has cut into RB Patrick Laird’s fantasy value.
  • Arizona RB JJ Taylor has at least 15 rushing attempts in five of six games, but has only topped the 80-yard mark once, and that was against the porous Oregon State run defense.
  • Utah RB Zack Moss has scored in every game this season and has carried the ball 50 times in the last two games.

Group 5 Notes

  • Troy RB BJ Smith has scored at least 2 rushing TDs in three of the last four games.  He has rushed for 100 yards and 2 TDs in back-to-back games.
  • Tulsa RB Shamari Brooks missed Thursday’s game at Houston with an ankle injury and Corey Taylor rushed for 152 yards and a TD on 33 carries.
  • Houston QB D’Eriq King has accounted for at least 4 TDs in every games this season.  WR Marquez Stevenson has caught a TD pass in every game this season.
  • Middle Tennessee RB Tavares Thomas has rushed for a touchdown in each of the past two games in which he has played.  He seems to be the Blue Raiders’ RB1 when healthy.  WR Patrick Smith has caught a TD pass in three of the past four games.  WR Ty Lee led the team with 67 receiving yards, but has yet to score in 2018.
  • Marshall QB Alex Thomson only completed 50% of his passes against MTSU (17-of-34), which certainly affected WR Tyre Brady’s numbers.  Brady caught 6 passes for 58 yards.  Playing without RB Keion Davis, Tyler King ran for 165 yards on 27 carries.
  • Temple RB Ryquell Armstead has carried the ball at least 20 times in each of the past four games and has scored in each of the past three games.
  • Even though he went through pregame warmups, Buffalo WR Anthony Johnson didn’t make the stat sheet against Central Michigan.  The Bulls’ two freshman running backs combined for 288 rushing yards.
  • Tulane WR Darnell Mooney has caught a TD pass in four of the last five games and has at least four receptions and 65 receiving yards in every game.
  • Cincinnati RB Michael Warren has scored in every game this season and has totaled eleven touchdowns through six games.  QB Desmond Ridder has accounted for at least three touchdowns in four straight games.
  • Northern Illinois RB Tre Harbison has scored a touchdown in back-to-back weeks.
  • Miami (OH) WR Dominique Robinson created some buzz during the spring.  James Gardner’s injury may have opened the door for him.  In the past two games, Robinson has caught nine passes for 136 yards and 2 TDs.
  • Ohio WR Papi White has at least 84 yards receiving in four of five games this year.
  • Bowling Green RB Andrew Clair looked healthy this week, accounting for 192 yards of offense and three touchdowns against Toledo.
  • Toledo RB Shakif Seymour had his first 100-yard rushing game of the year, but it was Bryant Koback with three rushing touchdowns in the win over Bowling Green.
  • After rushing for 497 yards in the first three games of 2018, Navy QB Malcolm Perry has totaled 147 rushing yards in the last two games.
  • Boise State QB Brett Rypien did not throw a TD pass against San Diego State.  He had thrown at least two TD passes in every game this season up until this weekend.
  • Georgia Southern QB Shai Werts and RB Wesley Fields combined for five touchdowns in the Eagles’ win over South Alabama.  Werts has scored a rushing TD in every game this season.
  • For a second consecutive week, a player on my Start list rushed for 300 yards.  Last week, Arizona State’s Eno Benjamin ran for 300 yards against Oregon State.  This week, South Florida’s Jordan Cronkrite ran for 300 yards against UMass.
  • UMass WR Andy Isabella has 389 receiving yards in the past two games and has scored in five of seven games this year.
  • New Mexico RB Tyrone Owens has scored in four of five games, but only has 100-yard game.  QB Sheriron Jones has throw four TD passes in back-to-back games.
  • The absence of QB Armani Rogers obviously hurt UNLV RB Lexington Thomas’ fantasy value in Week 6, and now we have to wonder how it will affect him in the coming weeks.
  • UL Monroe QB Caleb Evans has not thrown a TD pass in consecutive games.
  • Old Dominion RB Kesean Strong had 21 carries for 99 yards and a TD against FAU.  Teammate Jeremy Cox only had nine carries after 20-plus carries in each of the past two games.  WR Jonathan Duhart now has five consecutive 100-yard receiving games.  WR Travis Fulgham has caught a TD pass in three consecutive games.
  • FAU RB Devin Singletary has scored at least two touchdowns in four consecutive games.
  • UAB RB Spencer Brown has carried the ball at least 18 times in every game this season and has scored two touchdowns in back-to-back games.
  • LA Tech QB J’mar Smith only completed 9-of-23 passes against UAB.
  • Rice RB Austin Walter has totaled over 85 yards of offense in every game this season and has totaled over 100 yards of offense in four of six games.
  • UConn TE Aaron McLean has 10-plus fantasy points in four consecutive weeks.
  • Memphis RB Darrell Henderson has at least 2 TDs in every game this season.
  • Louisiana RB Trey Ragas has rushed for 100 yards in three consecutive games and has scored in four of five games.  WR Ja’Marcus Bradley has scored in four of five games, too.
  • Texas State TE Keenen Brown has 100 yards receiving and a TD in three of the last four games.
  • SMU WR James Proche has scored in four consecutive games and has caught at least nine passes in three of the last four games.  RB Braeden West has caught at least three passes in five of six games.
  • In the absence of RB Loren Easly, who was lost for the season, DeAndre Torrey had 19 rushing attempts for North Texas against UTEP and Nic smith had thirteen.  WR Jaelon Darden has been a more productive fantasy receiver than Jalen Guyton over the past two games.
  • New Mexico State RB Christian Gibson has rushed for 100 yards in consecutive games and should be given waiver wire consideration.
  • Liberty RB Frankie Hickson has scored three touchdowns in the past two games and WR Antonio Gandy-Golden has 18 receptions for 360 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games.
  • Fresno State WR KeeSean Johnson has caught at least six passes in every game this year and has scored in three of five games.
  • Nevada WR McLane Mannix has 25 receptions this season (6 games).  WR Kaleb Fossum has 32 receptions in the last three games.  Fossum has 45 receptions this season and zero TD receptions.  Six other players in the FBS have as many catches as Fossum, but all of the others have scored at least six touchdowns.
  • Colorado State RB Izzy Matthews had his first 100-yard game of the season against San Jose State.
  • Wyoming RB Nico Evans has rushed for at least 140 yards in three of the four games in which he has played this year.  Wyoming’s defense held this season’s top fantasy receiver to 30 yards receiving.  It was the first time John Ursua did not have at least 20 fantasy points in a single week.  Of course, it didn’t help that QB Cole McDonald did not play in the late Saturday night matchup. The reports of McDonald not playing were broken so late that many fantasy owners were already stuck with him in their lineup.  Kickoff was at midnight ET.
