QUARTERBACKS

Alex Hornibrook, Florida State

Starting quarterback James Blackman left Saturday’s game against Louisville with a knee injury and an MRI reportedly revealed a sprained MCL.  We should find out in the coming days approximately how long Blackman will be sidelined, but in his absence, Alex Hornibrook will take over the Florida State offense.  In the Seminoles’ 35-24 win over Louisville, Hornibrook completed 15-of-20 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns.

Next 3 weeks:  NC State, OFF, at Clemson

Mike Glass, Eastern Michigan

If you aren’t certain whether or not Mike Glass is available in your waiver pool, he’s worth a check.  Glass has accounted for three or more touchdowns in three of four games and has two 300-yard passing games on the road (at Kentucky and at Illinois).  The Eagles do not play in Week 5, but Glass is primed for a big season in conference play.

Next 3 weeks:  OFF, at Central Michigan, Ball State

RUNNING BACKS

Devin Brumfield, Utah

Utah’s starting running back, Zack Moss, left Friday’s game against USC with a shoulder injury.  His owners will certainly be scouring the waiver wire this week in fear that he will be sidelined for a few weeks.  In Moss’ absence, Devin Brumfield carried the ball ten times for 63 yards against the Trojans.  Even though he may have to share backfield duties with Devonta’e Henry-Cole and Jordan Wilmore, Brumfield seems to be the next man up.

Next 3 weeks:  Washington State, OFF, at Oregon State

Darius Anderson, TCU

Two weeks ago at Purdue, Darius Anderson carried the ball 16 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns.  On Saturday, he proved that performance wasn’t a fluke, as he carried the ball 19 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns against SMU.  Starting quarterback Max Duggan is only completing 50.6% of his passes, so expect the Horned Frogs’ offense to lean on Anderson and the run game.

Next 3 weeks:  Kansas, at Iowa State, OFF

Caleb Twyford, Texas State

Caleb Twyford was mentioned on the Week 4 podcast after it was realized he has receiver eligibility on Fantrax.  Twyford began the year as a receiver, but has transitioned into the backfield, and on Saturday night he carried the ball 27 times for 137 yards in a win over Georgia State.

Next 3 weeks:  Nicholls, OFF, UL Monroe

DK Billingsley, Troy

Starting running back BJ Smith will miss the remainder of the 2019 season due to a knee injury and it seems DK Billingsley will assume the lead role in the Trojans’ backfield.  In Saturday’s win at Akron, Billingsley carried the ball 22 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.  The 5-foot-11 and 207-pound sophomore has now scored a touchdown in each of the team’s first three games.

Next 3 weeks:  Arkansas State, at Missouri, OFF

RECEIVERS

Tre Walker, San Jose State

Tre Walker made his season debut on Saturday and caught 12 passes for 161 yards in the Spartans’ 31-24 win at Arkansas.  Last year, Walker led the team with 714 receiving yards, and should he remain healthy throughout the remainder of 2019, he’ll likely lead the team in receiving once again.

Next 3 weeks:  at Air Force, New Mexico, at Nevada

Corey Sutton, Appalachian State

Sutton had to sit out the first two games of the year, and as a result some fantasy owners had to play the waiting game, while others cut ties before the season began.  He made his return on Saturday and caught seven passes for 58 yards in the Mountaineers’ 34-31 win at North Carolina.

Next 3 weeks:  Coastal Carolina, OFF, at Louisiana

Tarique Milton, Iowa State

The Cyclones are struggling to run the ball, but they are certainly getting production from their receivers.  Milton has produced a catch of at least 70 yards in back-to-back games and has 286 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the past two weeks.

Next 3 weeks:  at Baylor, TCU, at West Virginia

Kaylon Geiger, Troy

Kaylon Geiger’s stats aren’t eye-popping, but he is the Trojans’ top receiver after three games.  So far, Geiger has 18 receptions for 277 yards and a touchdown.  He has caught at least five passes in each of the team’s first three games and has two 100-yard receiving games.

Next 3 weeks:  Arkansas State, at Missouri, OFF

Tony Nicholson, New Mexico State

Tony Nicholson made it into our Week 4 Deep Sleepers list and produced seven catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns in a 55-52 loss at New Mexico.  He has caught at least seven passes in three of the team’s first four games, so the graduate transfer from Baylor seems to have fantasy value in PPR formats.

Next 3 weeks:  Fresno State, Liberty, at Central Michigan

Joe Reed, Virginia

After four games of the 2019 season, Joe Reed is the Cavaliers’ top receiver, catching 23 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns.  Going back to the last six games of 2018, Reed has nine touchdown receptions and has scored in seven of the past ten games.

Next 3 weeks:  at Notre Dame, OFF, at Miami

TIGHT ENDS

Cole Kmet, Notre Dame

Tight end Cole Kmet returned just in time for Notre Dame’s game at Georgia and led the team in receiving, catching nine passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.  Kmet isn’t likely to be available in many leagues that utilize IR, but he should be available in a number of other leagues, as most fantasy owners don’t keep non-playing tight ends on the roster.  Even if your league does not require a tight end, Kmet’s numbers may rival those of other receivers, so don’t hesitate to start him in a receiver slot.

Next 3 weeks:  Virginia, Bowling Green, USC
