Snatch ‘Em Up Now
If they weren’t already drafted in your league, these guys will be hot commodities on the wire this week.
Quarterbacks:
Behren Morton, Texas Tech – The numbers paint just half the picture of how Morton performed yesterday. Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy asked the media postgame what year of eligibility Morton is. When the reporters responded with redshirt freshman, Gundy’s answer was, “that’s not good.” He knows how well Morton played, on the road, in his first start, against a top 10 team.
Kurtis Rourke, Ohio – We have been blessed in CFF to have been witness now to not just one, but two tremendous fantasy assets in the Rourke brothers. Ohio is now 8th nationally in pass yards per game, and its that’s really not even the impressive part. Rourke is completing 68% of his throws with just two interceptions. Efficiency ratings are off the charts, playing as well as any quarterback in the country I’d argue.
Running Backs:
Sieh Bangura, Ohio – Bangura is rostered in probably 70% of the leagues that I personally play in so my apologies if you missed adding him for not being included on the report, but overall, just 12% ownership on Fantrax currently. 90 or more rushing yards in consecutive weeks with four rushing touchdowns in that span. With how the passing game is performing, Bangura will have plenty of bites at the end-zone apple during MACtion play.
Percy Agyei-Obese, James Madison – Agyei-Obese instantly comes back from injury and rushed for 158 yards and two scores against Arkansas State. All four games this season, PAO has averaged over four yards a carry. Next up – a matchup with the 125th ranked rush defense in Georgia Southern.
CJ Beasley, Coastal Carolina – Last time Beasley will be included on the list at 23% ownership after rushing for 120+ yards and two scores against Louisiana-Monroe. Gets the 13th-ranked rush defense in the Sun Belt next week in Old Dominion. Who knows if/when we see Braydon Bennett this season, and Reese White remains out. The running game hasn’t suffered without them.
Wide Receivers:
Devontez Walker, Kent State – Yes, we understand that Fantrax ownership isn’t an exact representation of who is available in redraft leagues. But sitting at 13% still, we’re going to include him one last time here after posting 11-159-2 on 16 targets in the loss to Miami (Ohio). The target share between Walker/Dante Cephas is very nice – 69%. Literally nobody else catches the football for the Flashes.
Jaylin Lane, Middle Tennessee – Too much to say must-add? Maybe, but Lane has been outstanding the last four weeks, posting double-digit fantasy points in each game. 29 of his 43 targets have come in the last two games alone.
Zion Bowens, Hawaii – He’s baaaack. Bowens was targeted three times in the first two opening drives of the Week 0 matchup against Vanderbilt before leaving the contest due to injury. In the return against San Diego State, 9-108-1 on 11 targets. That’s enough evidence for me as the WR1 on a team that is 20th nationally in pass attempts per game.
Tight Ends:
Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan – Two 20-point performances in the last three games for Schoonmaker who was targeted 11 times against Indiana. The rumors swirling around Erick All seem to be true that he might be gone for the season and makes some sense not to rush back anyways the way Schoonmaker is performing. Future NFL Draft pick.
Worth A Look
If you have the roster room, these prospects are worth a look.
Quarterbacks:
DJ Irons, Akron – We were focused on Irons’ athletic ability in the offseason and how he could be featured in Joe Moorhead’s offense which features the QB in the running game often. Shame on us, because Irons is now second in the conference in completion percentage (66.5%) and threw for 400+ against Ohio on Saturday. Game script played a major role, but that’s two straight with 25 or more fantasy points. And we still have yet to see him run much this season.
Running Backs:
Brandon Campbell, Houston – Absolute pain for those of us that invested in Campbell’s rushing props. Just 53 yards on 12 carries in a week where game script killed us as Houston was trailing much of the evening. But just look at the upcoming schedule here. Navy, South Florida, SMU and Temple all in the next four games following the bye. That’s four straight games against some of the worst defenses in the country.
Brenden Brady, UTSA – This passing game for UTSA is going to present everyone multiple opportunities at finding the end-zone with how successful they’ve been. Brady has now scored 20 or more fantasy points in four of the last five games, and even more impressive is that he’s been doing it with Trelon Smith in the lineup too the past two weeks.
Mike Washington, Buffalo – Still a 55-45 split in the Buffalo backfield between Washington and Ron Cook Jr., but the former fits the bill more of the prototypical feature back of the two. The 215-pound redshirt freshman holds a 19-16 advantage in red-zone carries between the two and I expect that disparity to increase with how successful Washington has been inside the 20.
Jacquez Stuart, Toledo – 195 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the last two games for Stuart who has emerged finally as a top option in the Toledo backfield. Best part of adding Stuart (for now) – dual-eligibility at RB/WR.
UConn RBs – 295 rushing yards. Read that again. 295 rushing yards from UConn! 200 of which came from Devontae Houston before suffering an ankle injury. X-Rays were negative so we’ll see on his status for next week. Backup Victor Rosa came in, and the running game didn’t miss a beat, rushing for 89 yards and two scores. Next week – Ball State and the 114th ranked rush defense.
Audric Estime, Notre Dame – The Irish rushing attack is finding traction of late, particularly their starter in Audric Estime who has close to 300 yards over the last three games. And the upcoming schedule is appealing with Stanford and UNLV in the coming weeks. But not a must-add when Chris Tyree and Logan Diggs are getting 10-12 carries each week as well.
Wide Receivers:
Xavier White, Texas Tech – Fully dependent on Myles Price’s status moving forward. White will not be of value if Price is in the lineup. If he’s out, White is close to a must-start, especially with Behren Morton at quarterback. 17 receptions in the last two games.
Sam Wiglusz, Ohio – Going to put Sam “Wiggles” here for now, but he’s closing in on must-add territory now with consecutive 100-yard performances and three scores in the last two weeks. Only reason I’m not putting Wiglusz higher for now is the amount of depth Ohio has at receiver. Just 19% target share for the former Ohio State walk-on.
Jake Bobo, UCLA – Was targeted just six times against Utah, but found the end-zone twice, giving Bobo five TDs in the last four games. UCLA is moving him around more, including heavy snaps in the slot now, which has benefited his production.
Isaiah Winstead, East Carolina – Casuals flocked to CJ Johnson on the waiver wire after his monster performance a week ago. And yes he did score a touchdown against Tulane on Saturday, but Isaiah Winstead is this team’s top receiver. 9-90-0 on 15 targets. Winstead is closing in on 30% target share which is must-have territory for WRs.
Trey Cleveland, Texas Tech – Every Texas Tech receiver is going to get a significant bump in value with Morton starting, but tough to decipher which one is “the” guy to own moving forward. Of late, it’s been Trey Cleveland who saw a spike in snaps last week against Kansas State, before posting 9-100-0 on a team-high 16 targets vs. Oklahoma State. Does Cleveland have Daewood Davis like upside of an outside receiver in Kittley’s system? Can’t say for certain, but worth a pickup because of said upside.
Carlos Carriere, Central Michigan – Wash, rinse, repeat. Double-digit targets for the third straight game. Central Michigan stinks this season, so game scripts work in favor of Carriere.
Tre Harris, Louisiana Tech – Every week Harris has been productive with four or more catches in each game, averaging 6.8 targets per. Three touchdowns in the last four games with Louisiana Tech now entering the heart of C-USA play.
A&M receivers – I’m mystified that we’re including Jimbo Fisher receivers on this list, but difficult not to with what they’ve done the last two weeks with below-average play-calling and quarterback play. 5-star Evan Stewart was targeted 15 times against Bama, including a couple of highlight reel receptions. Moose Muhammad III posted 100+ yards against Mississippi State, followed up by 6-70-0 against the Tide. 17 total targets in the two-game span.
Longshots
Need to see more from these guys before pulling the trigger unless you are in the deepest of leagues.
Quarterbacks:
Cooper Legas, Utah State – Now, that’s a win that can turn around a season. Starting in place of Logan Bonner, Legas has now scored 30+ fantasy points in back-to-back games, and that’s against BYU and Air Force. Could be a big day against lowly Colorado State next Saturday. In fact, the next four week all look to be opportunities to possibly start Legas against some of the bottom-feeders of the Mountain West.
Running Backs:
Clyde Price, Akron – Just 2.8 yards per carry against Ohio, and there’s a chance Cam Wiley comes back at some point to reclaim his starting spot. Can’t deny four rushing touchdowns in the last two games, along with 10 receptions.
Georgia State backfield – How does this happen each year with Georgia State? Absolute trash in the non-conference, and then seemingly turn things around once Sun Belt play resumes. Two straight wins centered around the Panthers getting back to their strength – running the damn football. Jamyest Williams and Tucker Gregg both hit the century mark for the second time in two weeks, and I believe this can continue with four starters along the offensive line back, so it’s not just matchup dependent.
Daijun Edwards, Georgia – Kendall Milton was injured early against Auburn, and in the blowout situation it was Edwards who benefitted the most, rushing for 84 yards and three touchdowns. That’s now three-straight games with double digit carries and gets a favorable matchup against Vanderbilt next Saturday. If Milton is out at all moving forward, Edwards is deserving of a play in deeper formats.
Shedro Louis, Liberty – One-week only streaming option if you need it. After topping 100 yards in Week 5, Louis rushed for three touchdowns (just 27 yards) in the win over UMass. Another matchup this week Liberty should dominate as they take on Gardner-Webb. Louis will split time with Dae Dae Hunter and probably three other running backs in a blowout scenario, so this is out of necessity only.
Hassan Hall, Georgia Tech – Clearly the interim staff had a favorable opinion of the former Louisville transfer, because Hall has gotten nearly all of the running back carries in the last two games since Geoff Collins’ firing. Numbers were just ok against Duke, but had 17 of the 19 rushing attempts that went to Georgia Tech running backs. Gets the 11th and 12th ranked rush defenses in the ACC in the coming weeks with Virginia and Florida State.
Ashton Jeanty, Boise State – This offense has transformed since the OC change and Hank Bachmeier entering the transfer portal, now a run-heavy system that is getting both Jeanty and George Holani involved. Jeanty has over 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns the last two weeks with double-digit carries in both games.
Wide Receivers:
Khaleb Hood, Georgia Southern – Georgia Southern is fourth in the country in pass attempts per game, and WR1 Derwin Burgess has been quiet(er) the last few weeks. Hood had the big day Saturday with 11-103-1 on 13 targets. Could just be a stop gap option at worst, averaging 9.1 targets per game this season.
Bryson Green, Oklahoma State – Jaden Bray is back and it was clear the staff is trying to get him back in the fold quickly. Instead of Bryson Green getting the demotion, it was actually Braydon Johnson who didn’t get a single target against Texas Tech. Meanwhile, Green recorded his fourth touchdown in five games. Still think Green will be the third option in this passing game, but production is production.
Frank Ladson, Miami – The Hurricanes are in desperate need of playmakers, and Ladson looks to be giving Miami a consistent presence at receiver the last two games with 14 receptions on 17 targets.
Robert Ferrel, Washington State – Three touchdowns in four games for Ferrel, the current and former teammate of Cam Ward as they played together at Washington State. Targeted 22 times in the last three weeks. Looks like Renard Bell was seen with a sling in the second half against USC, which would significantly boost Ferrel’s value should Bell be out long-term.
Dynasty:
Samuel Brown, Rutgers – Looks like the takeover in the Rutgers backfield has occurred with 4-star freshman Samuel Brown getting majority of the carries for the second consecutive week in the loss to Nebraska. Combination add of someone that will not only help you in years to come but getting 15+ carries in back to back games so he can assist the roster down the stretch too. Rutgers is on bye, but gets the 73rd ranked rush defense in two weeks against Indiana.
Jaylen Jenkins, Washington State – Jenkins saw extended playing time with starter Nakia Watson suffering an injury against USC, and made the most of the opportunity with 185 total yards, including 131 on the ground on just 12 attempts. Could have some value this season if Watson is out, but is a player to watch moving forward as Watson is a senior. Biggest concern for long-term outlook is weighing 177 pounds.
