With only two weeks remaining in the CFF season, my Notes & Observations will focus on the hot button topics going into Week 12.
POWER 5
- After catching a pass on USC’s first offensive play of the game against Colorado, Jordan Addison did not have another reception. The Trojans will need Addison next week against UCLA, but do we know if he’s healthy enough for fantasy owners to start him with confidence? I’m not.
- I doubt we’ll see Ohio State running back Miyan Williams in the next two weeks, so if TreVeyon Henderson is healthy next week, he’ll be a great option against Maryland.
- Tennessee receiver Cedric Tillman’s unexpected scratch against Missouri certainly had an impact on many Week 11 matchups.
- Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham left the Clemson game with a shoulder injury. Whether or no he will be able to play next week may not be know for days, but the matchup against NC State isn’t ideal if he’s not 100%.
- Miami running back Jaylen Knighton carried the load against Georgia Tech (16-118-1) after Henry Parrish was ruled out with an injury. Even if Parrish misses another game, the Hurricanes play at Clemson next week, so Knighton wouldn’t be considered an appealing Week 12 option.
- Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders played the second half of the Cowboys’ matchup against Iowa State, so his fanatsy owners should feel optimistic about him starting next week’s game at Oklahoma.
- Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs did not play in the second half of Saturday’s game at Ole Miss. Gibbs’ ankle got rolled late in the first quarter, and I’m pretty sure that injury sidelined him for the remainder of the game.
- With games remaining against Arizona and Washington, Washington State running back Nakia Watson is an appealing fantasy option over the last two weeks.
- Bo Nix’s fantasy owners will be anxious to get an update on his ankle before this week’s game against Utah.
- I’ve been saying for weeks that Kansas State is better with Will Howard at quarterback, so hopefully he starts the Wildcats’ remaining games, and with matchups against West Virginia and Kansas in the next two weeks, he could be a decent fantasy option.
- Utah running back Tavion Thomas carried the ball 22 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns against Stanford. Saturday’s 100-yard performance was Thomas’ first since the season opener at Florida. Some fantasy owners will be debating whether or not they can risk starting Thomas in Week 12 at Oregon.
FULL FBS
- After a poor performance against Bowling Green (1-13-0) following his return from injury, I would be very hesitant to start Kent State receiver Dante Cephas in Week 12 after he was only targeted four times. A healthier Devontez Walker was targeted six times and Ja’Shaun Poke was targeted ten times. Poke has been targeted 27 times in the last two games.
- Central Michigan running back Lew Nichols missed Wednesday’s game against Buffalo, and his availability in Week 12 remains in question.
- Northern Illinois running backs Harrison Waylee and Antario Brown missed Wednesday’s game at Western Michigan, so add their names to the list of possible Week 12 absentees.
- UNLV running back Aidan Robbins against Hawaii next week looks very appealing.
- According to the Old Dominion beat writer, Noah Fleischman, receiver Ali Jennings will need surgery on his injured ankle. If so, Jennings won’t be a factor in Weeks 12 & 13.
- South Alabama running back La’Damian Webb did not play in the second half against Texas State, so we will be on the lookout for updates on his status leading up to next week’s game at Southern Miss.
