Now that we have another week to evaluate the college fantasy landscape, it has become a little easier to make the call on whether to hold or move on from certain players we targeted on draft day.
POWER 5
- Not the start I was expecting from Louisville QB Malik Cunningham and the Louisville offense after two games. RB Tiyon Evans is off to a consistent start, though, rushing for at least 75 yards and a TD in back-to-back games.
- After a strong start to the season by running backs Henry Parrsih Jr. and Thaddius Franklin Jr., it’s difficult to see how Jaylan Knighton fits in, because if he starts getting more touches, I wonder if Parrish will be most affected. Still, I couldn’t blame owners for moving off of Knighton at this point.
- Missouri running backs Cody Schrader and Nathaniel Peat are both a hold after their ineffective performances against Kansas State. It seems like the backfield duties are coming down to those two.
- I guess it’s time to take Duke a little bit more seriously, and wide receiver Jalon Calhoun has caught at least six passes for 90 yards in each of the blue Devils first two games.
- Northwestern RB Evan Hall has totaled over 170 yards from scrimmage and scored a touchdown in each of the Wildcats first two games of the year.
- It was nice to see Penn State establish the running game against Ohio, as Nick Singleton ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, but it will be interesting to see how the running game looks next week against a better defense (Auburn).
- A great start for quarterback Sam Hartman, as he threw for 300 yards and four TDs in the Demon Deacons’ 45-25 win at Vanderbilt. Owners of receiver A.T. Perry were certainly glad to see Hartman return, as Perry caught five passes for 142 yards and a TD in the win.
- I mentioned last week that owners of Vanderbilt quarterback Mike White should leverage his strong start into trade offers. After the Commodores’ performance against Wake Forest, I feel even more strongly about that opinion. Hopefully, he performs well next week against Northern Illinois. After that matchup, Vandy has Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, and a BYE over the next four weeks.
- Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson has accounted for six total touchdowns and has rushed for at least 60 yards and a touchdown in each of the Razorbacks’ first two games. Running back Raheim Sanders has logged at least 20 carries and gone over 100 yards rushing in back-to-back games.
- South Carolina running back Marshawn Lloyd hasn’t exactly dominated the touches in the Gamecocks’ backfield, but he has scored three touchdowns in two games.
- I would assume that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will be out for a bit, but Hudson Card didn’t look bad against the Alabama defense.
- I don’t want to downplay the offensive performance by Alabama against Texas on Saturday, but I am assuming that is going to be their worst performance of the year. Wherever you were on their players going into week two, particularly the receivers, I feel they’re all a ‘hold’ at this point.
- North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton has rushed for 100 yards in two of the Tar Heels’ first three games and he has scored a touchdown in each of the team’s first three games. In Josh Downs’s absence, Kobe Paysour has caught at least five passes for 70 yards and a TD in back-to-back games.
- After two games, I feel as if I wouldn’t want a part of the Notre Dame backfield right now.
- Pitt running back Rodney Hammond Jr. hurt his leg in the opener against West Virginia and did not play in Saturday’s game against Tennessee. In his absence, Israel Abanikanda ran the ball 25 times for 154 yards and a TD. There doesn’t seem to be a timeline on Hammond’s return, but it doesn’t seem serious.
- It seems as if Texas A&M was one of the most overrated teams going into the season. I know it’s only two games, but from a fantasy point of view, running back Devon Achane doesn’t look as appealing as he was in the preseason. Thankfully, Achane added a kickoff return touchdown to his rushing totals of 66 yards and a touchdown. Achane is certainly a hold, but his fantasy value has taken a hit due to the ineptness of the Texas A&M offense.
- Maryland scored 56 points against Charlotte and Rakim Jarrett only had 21 yards receiving and Dontay Demus did not have a catch.
- Illinois running back Chase Brown has now rushed for at least 140 yards in each of the Illini’s first three games.
- Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong only completed 13 of 32 passes against Illinois and tossed two interceptions. Fortunately, the Cavaliers get Old Dominion next week.
- Iowa State running back Jirehl Brock has started the year with two consecutive 100 yard rushing games. Receiver Xavier Hutchinson has totaled 19 catches for 226 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games.
- The Iowa offense has scored one touchdown this year in two home games against South Dakota State and Iowa State.
- Michigan State running back Jalen Berger has topped 100 yard mark in each of the Spartans’ first two games and he is totaled four touchdowns. Teammate Jarek Broussard has rushed for at least 50 yards in both games this year. Receiver Jayden Reed showed signs of life against Akron catching, six passes for 76 yards, so I think he’s a hold right now.
- Purdue receiver Charlie Jones has caught 21 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns through two games.
- Cal receiver Jeremiah Hunter has caught at least five passes in each of the Bears’ first two games. Running back Jaydn Ott might not be getting a ton of carries, but he’s making the most of his touches and has scored three touchdowns in two games.
- Washington receiver Jalen McMillan has at least 85 yards receiving and a touchdown in both games this year.
- Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh leads the team with 14 receptions through two games.
- Owners of Texas Tech wide receiver Myles Price are probably feeling much better after his five catch performance against Houston which resulted in 78 yards and a touchdown.
- Hopefully, we will get more details in the coming days about the status of UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet, who did not play in Saturday’s game against Alabama State, and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who left the game in the second quarter.
- West Virginia receiver Bryce Ford–Wheaton has caught at least nine passes and two touchdowns in each of the Mountaineers’ first two games. Tight end/running back CJ Donaldson followed up last week’s 100-yard game with a two touchdown performance against Kansas. Running back Tony Mathis Jr. has gotten at least 15 carries in each of the first two games, but with Donaldson around I feel he won’t score many touchdowns.
- Three of Ole Miss tight end Michael Trigg’s nine receptions have resulted in a touchdown. My prediction is that we will see Jackson Dark start at quarterback when the Rebels play at Georgia Tech next week.
- Nebraska running back Anthony Grant has started the year with three consecutive 100 yard rushing games.
- Oklahoma State running back Dominic Richardsons fantasy owners are feeling a lot better after his 27-carry game against Arizona State, which resulted in 131 rushing yards and a touchdown. Richardson also added five catches for 44 yards in the passing game.
- Arizona State running back Xazavian Valley has started the year with two consecutive 100 yard games and a scored a touchdown in each of them
- USC receiver Jordan Addison has caught two TD passes in each of the Trojans first two games.
- Stanford running back EJ Smith has totaled over 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the Cardinal’s first two games.
- Virginia Tech running back Keshawn King left the game against Boston College early with an injury, but it seems like he was held out for precautionary reasons and the injury isn’t serious.
- I definitely overvalued the Indiana passing game against Idaho. They made a commitment to get the run game going and Shaun Shivers carried the ball 20 times for 155 yards and a touchdown. He has now scored a rushing touchdown in each of the Hoosiers’ first two games.
- I can feel the frustration mounting for TCU receiver Quentin Johnston, but I would still hold for one more week, even though I’d be unlikely to start him in the next match up.
- I’m not completely ready to move off of Oregon running back to Byron Cardwell, but after two weeks there may be a pressing need to upgrade if you have someone on the waiver wire with immediate upside.
- I can make a case to move on from Baylor running back Taye McWilliams, especially if he misses any time. Qualan Jones and Craig Williams each received at least 16 carries in the Bears’ 26-20 loss at BYU, and now the door is open for rotation.
- Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers has thrown at least four TD passes in each of the Bulldogs’ first two games.
FULL FBS
- UCF QB John Rhys Plumlee with a shaky second start, but at least 15 rush attempts in back-to-back games is a good sign. RB Isaiah Bowser off to a solid start with 2TDs in the Knights’ first two games. WR Javon Baker has led the team in receiving the first two games. Some owners should be ready to move off of Ryan O’Keefe.
- Boise State RB George Holani is a hold after 20 carries, four receptions, and a TD in the win over New Mexico. However, the lack of utilization of WR Stefan Cobbs has been surprising and I would be moving on.
- Arkansas State receiver Champ Flemings is dominating the target shares in Te’Vailance Hunt’s absence. Flemings has totaled 17 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown through two games. Receiver Jeff Foreman only has one catch through two games and it’s probably time to move on from him.
- Great start to the season for the UTSA offense. Quarterback Frank Harris has passed for at least 330 yards and three touchdowns in each of the first two games. Receiver Zakhari Franklin has caught at least 10 passes for 100 yards in each of the Road Runners’ first two games, while teammate Joshua Cephus has caught at least seven passes for 100 yards in the first two games. De’Corian Clark has caught at least six passes for 70 yards and a TD in the first two games.
- Old Dominion receiver Ali Jennings III has caught 13 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games. I do not know if tight end Zack Kuntz played, because this was a game that I didn’t watch, but I noticed that Kuntz didn’t have a target against ECU.
- South Alabama running back La’Damian Webb has rushed for at least 90 yards and two touchdowns in each of the Jaguars first two games. Receiver Jalen Wayne has gone over 90 yards and scored at least one touchdown in each of the first two games.
- Marshall isn’t missing running back Rasheen Ali right now, as Khalan Laborn carried the ball 31 times for 163 yards and a TD in the Thundering Herd’s 26-21 upset win at Notre Dame.
- Appalachian State running back Nate Noel did not play Saturday because he suffered an ankle injury in last week’s matchup against North Carolina.
- Air Force fullback Brad Roberts has picked up where he left off last year, rushing for at least 100 yards and a score in each of the Falcons’ first two games. He has totaled 288 yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries.
- There could be some that are worried about running back rotation at Cincinnati, but keep in mind they just played Kennesaw State and rotation was inevitable. In the opener, Kiner looked like their best back and I am expecting him to get the most work this year.
- I thought after two games we would have a better idea of what’s going on at running back at Memphis, but that doesn’t seem to be the case right now. I can understand if owners are looking to move off of Jay Ducker.
- UNLV running back Aidan Robbins has scored a touchdown in each of the Rebels’ first two games.
- I feel that Houston running back Brandon Campbell has fantasy value moving forward after getting at least 17 touches in each of the Cougars’ first two games.
- For as bad as Colorado State looked in their 34-19 home loss to middle Tennessee, receiver Tory Horton is in for a big statistical season because the Rams don’t have much else.
- James Madison receiver Kris Thornton has caught 19 passes for 257 yards and five touchdowns through two games. Receiver Reggie Brown missed this past weekend’s game and did not dress.
- If you’re still holding Buffalo running back Ron Cook Jr., I’d suggest moving on.
- After next week’s match up at Wake Forest, liberty play Akron, Old Dominion, UMass, and Gardner-Webb in the following four weeks, and I believe quarterback Kaidon Salter will find a way into your starting lineup during that stretch.
- Still no running back Braden Bennett for Coastal Carolina and the Chanticleers struggled to get past Gardner-Webb this past weekend.
- I thought Weber State would be a nice bounce-back opponent for Utah State following their loss at Alabama, but four interceptions led to a 35-7 defeat for the defending MWC champions.
- SMU receiver Rashee Rice has caught 17 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games.
- Tulsa receiver Keylon Stokes has caught at least eight passes, totaled 130 yards, and scored a TD in each of the first two games of the year.
- Georgia Southern running back Jalen White has scored two touchdowns in each of the Eagles’ first two games.
- Fresno State running back Jordan Mims has scored five touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ first two games, and receiver Nikko Remigio has totaled 100 yards receiving in each of the Bulldogs’ first two games.
