Week 6 Waiver Wire

QUARTERBACKS

Rex Culpepper, Syracuse

Tommy DeVito will likely miss the remainder of the 2020 season due to a leg injury suffered in Saturday’s loss to Duke.  Culpepper, a redshirt senior, should take over as the team’s starter this week when the Orange host Liberty.

Connor Bazelak, Missouri

After replacing Shawn Robinson in the Tigers’ 35-12 loss at Tennessee two Saturdays ago, Connor Bazelak was named the starting quarterback for the team’s Week 6 matchup against LSU.  The redshirt freshman completed 29-of-34 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns in Missouri’s 45-41 win over the defending champs, so he’ll likely command the offense for the foreseeable future.

Kevaris Thomas, Western Kentucky

Thomas replaced an ineffective Tyrrell Pigrome in Saturday’s game against Marshall and led two scoring drives late in the second half.  Thomas finished the game 9-of-18 passing for 148 yards and a touchdown, while adding 30 yards and a score on the ground.  Thomas did have the benefit of entering a 38-0 game and played against a softer defense, but the Hilltoppers need a spark on offense, so it would not be a surprise to see the sophomore get the start next week.  With upcoming games against UAB and BYU in the next three weeks, Thomas would be more of a long-term option for November.

RUNNING BACKS

Tank Bigsby, Auburn

Bigsby was Auburn’s best offensive player two weekends ago when he totaled 99 yards of offense against Georgia.  This past Saturday, he ran for 146 yards on 20 carries in the Tigers’ 30-28 win over Arkansas.  The 6-foot and 204-pound freshman already looks like Auburn’s most complete back, catching eleven passes out of the backfield in the past two games.

RECEIVERS

Anthony Schwartz, Auburn

In Saturday’s 30-28 win over Arkansas, Schwartz was targeted 13 times and caught ten passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.  In the past two games, the junior receiver has been targeted a team-high 27 times and has hauled in a total of 18 passes from quarterback Bo Nix. `

De’Vion Warren, Arkansas

Treylon Burks has missed the Razorbacks’ last two games with an injury.  However, De’Vion Warren has spearheaded the receiving corps in his absence, catching nine passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns.  Burks still figures to be the team’s top receiver in 2020, but Warren has proven to be an important part of the Arkansas passing game.

Caleb Chapman, Texas A&M

In the Aggies’ 41-38 win over Florida, Chapman was targeted a team-high twelve times and caught nine passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.  Usually, we require some consistency before we start recommending waiver additions, but in a year where the player pool isn’t quite as deep, potential trumps consistency.
