Week 7 Notes & Observations

Power 5

  • Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei hasn’t accounted for more than 1 TD in four of six games this year.
  • Syracuse RB Sean Tucker has six 100-yard rushing games this year and has carried the ball at least 22 times in each of the last four games.  QB Garrett Shrader has scored a rushing TD in 5 straight games.
  • The more I watch Oregon play, the more surprised I am that the Ducks won at Ohio State.  Other than RB Travis Dye, I’m not sure any other player is fantasy relevant…maybe QB Anthony Brown in P5-only leagues.
  • Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada has hooked up with WR Ainias Smith for 2 TDs in each of the last two games.
  • Missouri RB Tyler Badie scored a rushing TD in the Tigers’ 35-14 loss to Texas A&M and has now scored in all seven games this year.
  • Nebraska RB Rahmir Johnson has scored at lest 1 TD in three straight games.
  • We were wondering who would take over as Minnesota’s lead back after the loss of Trey Potts, and based on Saturday’s game against Nebraska, it seems to be Bryce Williams, who led the Gophers with 127 rushing yards and a TD on 17 carries.
  • Northwestern WR Stephon Robinson Jr. has posted back-to-back 100-yard receiving games.
  • After a slow start to the 2021 season, WR Treylon Burks has topped the 100-yard mark and scored a TD in four of the last five games.
  • All of a sudden, LSU has found its rushing attack and RB Tyrion Price-Davis has rushed for 434 yards and 5 TDs in the last two games.
  • After rushing for 100 yards in each of Auburn’s first three games, RB Tank Bigsby hasn’t hit the 70-yard mark in four consecutive games.
  • Not sure LSU has a player that can replace the production of Kayshon Boutte, but Jaray Jenkins was the team’s playmaker in the red zone, catching 3 TD passes in the Tigers’ 49-42 win over Florida.
  • I thought this weeks ago, so I’ll be cautiously optimistic about mentioning it again, but Florida needs to put the offense in the hands of Anthony Richardson.
  • Oklahoma State RB Jaylen Warren has rushed for at least 123 yards in four straight games and carried the ball at least 27 times in each of those games.
  • Texas RB Bijan Robinson has scored in all seven games this year and has at least 127 rushing yards in five straight games.
  • Duke couldn’t score against a Virginia defense that had given up 39.3 points per game in four ACC games going into Week 7.
  • Anyone holding Miami RB Cam’Ron Harris can probably move on from him.  Jaylan Knighton is the Canes’ RB1 now.
  • North Carolina RB Ty Chandler has scored a rushing TD in five of the Tar Heels’ last six games.  WR Josh Downs has caught at least 8 passes and a TD in all seven games this year.
  • In three career games against Iowa, Purdue WR David Bell has totaled 37 receptions for 558 yards and 5 TDs.
  • Georgia RB Zamir White has now scored at least one rushing TD in five consecutive games.
  • I’m sure fantasy owners of Baylor RB Abram Smith were glad the Bears finally gave him a heavy workload against BYU.  The results: 27 carries for 188 yards and 3 TDs.
  • South Carolina RB Kevin Harris scored 2 TDs against Tennessee, but the Gamecocks struggled on the ground against Vanderbilt.  I do not think Harris is worth a roster spot, even with some decent matchups down the road.
  • Iowa State RB Breece Hall has scored a TD in every game this season and has scored 2 TDs in four straight games.
  • Kansas State RB Deuce Vaughn failed to score a TD for the first time this season in the Wildcats’ 33-20 loss to Iowa State.
  • What a first start for Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams…5 total TDs.  RB Kennedy Brooks has scored a TD in six of seven games this season and has rushed for more than 150 yards in back-to-back games.
  • In his last two games, Ole Miss QB Matt Corral has attempted 59 passes and totaled 45 rushing attempts.
  • For those that missed the end of the Ole Miss-Tennessee game, QB Hendon Hooker had to be helped off the field after suffering a leg injury.  It seemed to be his knee and he was not putting any weight on his leg.  The Vols play at Alabama next week and then have a week off before facing Kentucky on November 6.
  • Wisconsin RB Braelon Allen topped the 100-yard rushing mark for the second straight week and has now scored a rushing TD in three of four games.
  • UCLA RB Zach Charbonnet has not scored a rushing TD in three straight games, but has rushed for at least 100 yards in five of seven games this year.

Group 5

  • Appalachian State RB Daetrich Harrington played in Tuesday’s game at Louisiana and I’m curious to see how he fits into the rotation when Camerun Peoples returns.  My guess is that he will still be behind Peoples and Noel on the depth chart.
  • I mentioned on the podcast my concerns about the North Texas offense and that late rally they had at Missouri last week.  Fool’s gold.  RB DeAndre Torrey is the only player on the team worth rostering.
  • San Jose State was giving up over 140 yards per game on the ground going into Friday night’s matchup against San Diego State, but limited the Aztecs to 70 rushing yards and held RB Greg Bell to 41 yards on 19 carries.
  • Central Florida RB Isaiah Bowser returned from injury on Saturday and carried the ball 13 times for 27 yards and a TD in the Knights’ 56-21 loss at Cincinnati.
  • Cincinnati RB Jerome Ford has scored 2 or more TDs in four of his last five games.
  • Buffalo RB Kevin Marks did not play against Ohio and teammate Dylan McDuffie ran for 143 yards and a TD in the Bulls’ 27-26 win.
  • Tulsa WR Josh Johnson has caught at least 8 passes in four of the last five games.  WR Sam Crawford has caught a TD pass in three of the last four games.  RB Shamari Brooks has topped the 125-yard mark in three of his last four games.
  • South Florida RB Jaren Mangham has scored a rushing TD in five straight games.
  • Eastern Michigan WR Dylan Drummond has caught a TD pass in three of his last four games.
  • Miami (OH) WR Jack Sorenson has caught a TD pass in four of his last six games.
  • Northern Illinois RB Antario Brown left Saturday’s game against Bowling Green with an injury and teammate Jay Ducker racked up 210 rushing yards on 33 carries against the Falcons.
  • I’m worried about QB Dequan Finn vulturing RB Bryant Koback’s rushing TDs.  Finn had 25 carries and scored 2 rushing in Toledo’s 26-23 loss at Central Michigan.
  • Central Michigan RB Lew Nichols topped the 130-yard rushing mark for the fourth time this season in the Chippewas’ win over Toledo.
  • Western Michigan RB LaDarius Jefferson has scored a rushing TD in all seven games this season.  WR Skyy Moore has caught at least 7 passes in five consecutive games.
  • Fresno State WR Jalen Cropper only had 18 receiving yards against Wyoming, but he kept his scoring streak alive.  Cropper has now caught a TD pass in all seven games this season.
  • Western Kentucky WR Jerreth Sterns has at least 170 receiving yards in four of six games this season.
  • UTSA totaled 13 TDs in their last two games, but RB Sincere McCormick did not score any of them.
  • Colorado State RB David Bailey returned from injury and ran for 58 yards and 2 TDs in the Rams’ 36-7 win at New Mexico.
  • Liberty QB Malik Willis has thrown 6 INTs in the last two games.
  • Perhaps my biggest whiff of the week was Louisiana Tech QB Austin Kendall, who could not direct the offense into the end zone against UTEP.  Kendall had accounted for 13 TDs (10 pass, 3 rush) in his first four games.
  • In Boise State’s last three games, WR Stefan Cobbs has outperformed teammate Khalil Shakir.
