Week 7 Notes & Observations

Power Conferences

One week after his 166-yard rushing game against UCF, Kansas State RB Dylan Edwards finished Saturday’s matchup at Baylor with 26 rushing yards and a TD. It feels like Edwards won’t see 15–20 touches weekly.

Of the four running backs with 10 or more TDs this season (J. Coleman – Washington, J. Love – Notre Dame, R. Henry Jr. – UTSA, and A. Raymond – Rutgers), Rutgers RB Antwan Raymond is the only one to score in every game this year. WR Ian Strong has caught at least 7 passes for 100 yards in four of five games.

Washington RB Jonah Coleman’s rushing TD in the Huskies’ 38–19 win over Rutgers gave him an FBS-leading 12 TDs on the season.

SMU RB TJ Harden has failed to score in three straight games and is averaging just 53.7 rushing yards per game during that stretch. Harden had 5 rushing TDs after the first three games of the season.

If you’re riding the UCLA wave, QB Nico Iamaleava could be a solid Week 8 play against Maryland before the Bruins head to Indiana in Week 9.

For those who thought WR Sam Jackson V starting at quarterback for Oklahoma State was a unicorn play — reality hit quick. His 84 passing yards, INT, and –28 rushing yards might’ve netted negative fantasy points in some leagues.

Last week I said we needed to see Pitt QB Mason Heintschel against Florida State before overreacting. He threw 2 INTs but topped 300 yards passing again and ran for 64 yards in a win. It helped that RB Desmond Reid returned and caught both TDs, finishing with 8 receptions for 155 yards and 2 scores.

After the win at Missouri, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said WR Ryan Williams was banged up and didn’t practice much. Williams didn’t record a catch and played just 32 of 78 snaps in the 27–24 victory.

Wake Forest QB Deshawn Purdie made his first start and threw 4 TDs in a 39–14 win at Oregon State. RB Demond Claiborne keeps battling through injuries and has now scored in five straight games.

Northwestern RB Caleb Komolafe has scored a rushing TD in four straight games heading into next week’s matchup with Purdue.

TCU WR Eric McAlister has caught 2 or more TDs in three of his last four games.

Kansas State TE Garrett Oakley has caught a TD pass in three straight games.

Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love has four multi-TD games this year, ranking second nationally with 11 scores behind Washington RB Jonah Coleman. WR Will Pauling has caught a TD in three consecutive games.

Setting fantasy aside — what a win for Indiana at Oregon. Head coach Curt Cignetti just keeps winning; you have to wonder where he’ll be in two years.

Tennessee WR Chris Brazzell II had just one catch in Saturday’s win over Arkansas. Afterward, QB Joey Aguilar said Brazzell was often double-teamed.

Minnesota RB Darius Taylor has played four games this season and has yet to score a touchdown.

Clemson RB Adam Randall has scored in all six games, while WR Bryant Wesco Jr. has caught a TD in four of six.

Boston College WR Lewis Bond has 45 catches in six games but still no TDs.

USC RB Waymond Jordan is expected to miss multiple weeks with an ankle injury. Freshman King Miller should step into the RB1 role after rushing for 158 yards and a TD against Michigan.

Auburn continues to get burned by big calls in big games, but regardless, QB Jackson Arnold just isn’t it.

Texas Tech RB Cameron Dickey has carried the ball 21 times in back-to-back games and exploded for 263 yards and 2 TDs in the win over Kansas. With the Red Raiders contending for a Big XII title, he’s trending toward a Tahj Brooks-type workload. QB Behren Morton left with a leg injury but may return for Week 8 at Arizona State.

Group of 5 Conferences

No fantasy relevance here, but it’s wild how QB Malachi Nelson went from elite recruit to being replaced at UTEP after stops at USC and Boise State.

Kennesaw State WR Gabriel Benyard has scored in four straight games.

Tulane RB Javin Gordon looks like the new RB1 and has scored in back-to-back games.

Over his last two games, Jacksonville State QB Caden Creel has 47 carries for 293 yards and 2 TDs. RB Cam Cook leads the nation in rushing with 832 yards (138.7 per game).

Southern Miss RB Jeffery Pittman has scored 2 TDs in each of the last three games.

Georgia Southern WR Camden Brown has caught a TD in five of six games and has topped 100 yards in three straight.

South Florida QB Byrum Brown has thrown 3+ TD passes in three straight games, while freshman WR Jeremiah Koger has 8 catches for 169 yards and 3 TDs in his first two outings.

Miami (OH) WR Kam Perry has at least 76 receiving yards in five of six games and leads the FBS with 29.7 yards per catch.

Eastern Michigan RB Dontae McMillan has rushed for 100+ yards in three of the last four games.

Marshall QB Carlos Del Rio-Wilson has thrown at least 2 TDs in four straight and rushed for one in three of those. He’s now a weekly starter, especially in 2-QB leagues.

Air Force QB Liam Szarka has rushed for 100+ yards in four straight games. TE Bruin Fleischmann has caught a TD in each of those four.

Navy QB Blake Horvath has rushed for at least 110 yards in four straight and scored in five consecutive games.

FAU WR Easton Messer leads the nation with 52 catches but has only 1 TD through six games.

San Jose State QB Walker Eget has thrown 3+ TDs in three straight games, with WR Danny Scudero catching 7 of his last 10 TD passes. Scudero leads the nation with 8 receiving TDs.

UTSA WR Devin McCuin has caught a TD in three of the last four games.

Texas State RB Lincoln Pare has scored in five of six games, with 5 total TDs in his last two. WR Beau Sparks has gone four games without a TD after scoring 5 in the first two.

Boise State RB Dylan Riley has all three of the Broncos’ 100-yard rushing games this year, including 101 yards in the win over New Mexico.

San Diego State WR Jordan Napier has topped 100 yards receiving in three of the last four games.

Hawaii WR Jackson Harris has posted back-to-back 100-yard receiving performances.
