Snatch ‘Em Up Now

If they weren’t already drafted in your league, these guys will be hot commodities on the wire this week.

Quarterbacks:

Xavier Arline, Navy – 26 fantasy points in each of the last two games for Arline, who does have QB/RB eligibility on Fantrax. A tricky matchup against a sneaky good East Carolina defense this week, but triple option can give even the best defenses some fits.

Gunnar Watson, Troy – 28 or more fantasy points for Watson in each of the last three games with a combined 10 passing touchdowns. Two performances were against defenses in the top half of the Sun Belt as well with South Alabama and Texas State. Strong matchup again this week at home against a Louisiana defense giving up 22 FPPG to quarterbacks.

Brendan Sorsby, Indiana – If this were the normal formatting of our weekly WW article, Sorsby would be down at the bottom of the list. But the sophomore quarterback has also scored 20 or more fantasy points in each of the last four games, including a season-high 351 total yards of offense and five touchdowns against Illinois. Clearly a game where both defenses/teams have mailed it in this year, so take with a grain of salt, but Indiana faces a similar situation this week in Michigan State.

Running Backs:

Marion Lukes, Central Michigan – Myles Bailey was back from injury, but Lukes is the hot hand in the CMU backfield rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown against Western Michigan. 20-1 advantage in rushing attempts over his backfield mate. Lukes remains a startable option this week but should be noted that he does face the best rush defense in the MAC with the Ohio Bobcats.

CJ Baxter, Texas – Obviously not available in dynasty leagues, but Baxter likely is a FA in redrafts, and could be in line to start next week depending on the severity of Jonathon Brooks’ injury.

Gavin Sawchuk, Oklahoma – Tawee Walker was available, as was Marcus Major I believe, yet it was Sawchuk getting the bulk of the carries Saturday with 135 yards on 22 attempts in the win over West Virginia. Don’t know what was going on behind the scenes, but this is how the OU backfield should have looked all year long.

Rashod Amos, Miami (Ohio) – The South Carolina transfer hit 100 rushing yards for the second time in as many games with four rushing scores in the last three weeks. He’ll face the 11th ranked rush defense in the MAC with Buffalo. Miami (Ohio) is no threat to throw the football with Aveon Smith now at quarterback, so the RedHawks will lean on their best offensive player.

LJ Johnson, SMU – 34 carries in the last two weeks, topping the century mark for the second time this season with 103 yards on 19 attempts vs. North Texas. This is also the second straight game that Johnson has started over Jaylan Knighton. Another favorable matchup this week against a Tulsa defense that is bottom 20 nationally in fantasy points allowed to running backs.

Hahsaun Wilson, Charlotte – Kudos to the Charlotte coaching staff and offensive line for churning out rushing production despite being down to their RB4 or RB5 on the season. Wilson had not recorded a single carry until Saturday, finishing with 198 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to Memphis.

Anthony Watkins, Tulsa – Streaming option against a North Texas defense this week that is allowing, by far, the most fantasy points in the country to running backs.

Wide Receivers:

Drake Stoops, Oklahoma – Ride the hot hand. Targets have been spread evenly this season between Stoops, Nic Anderson and Jalil Farooq, yet the senior slot receiver is closing his college career on a high note with 22 receptions and nearly 300 receiving yards over the last two games. BYU will pose no threat next week to this Oklahoma offense.

Kenneth Womack, Western Michigan – Another volume-heavy performance from Womack with 12 receptions on 17 targets in the win over Central Michigan and could hit 100 targets for the season next week against Northern Illinois. Womack is only averaging 9.4 YPC, so his value comes in full-point PPR leagues first and foremost.

Donaven McCulley, Indiana – The former quarterback turned receiver now has four touchdowns in the last three games after posting a season-high 11 receptions for 138 yards on 13 targets. He’s now the clear WR1 with Cam Camper out for the season.

Javon Harvey, Old Dominion – Harvey can’t be trusted at this point, but if you’re a significant underdog in your semifinal matchup, the ODU receiver might be worth the Home Run swing. 12 receptions on 16 targets vs. Liberty. Harvey faces a Georgia Southern defense this week that is bottom 20 in fantasy points allowed to receivers.

Will Pauling, Wisconsin – Another week, another double-digit target performance as Pauling hauled in 10 receptions for 96 yards on 13 targets. That’s five out of the last six games, and double-digit fantasy points in the last six weeks in full-point PPR formats.

Leon Johnson III / Rashod Owens, Oklahoma State – Down week for the Oklahoma State offense, but this duo has been impressive the last few weeks and combined for 22 targets in the loss to UCF. As mentioned in our DFS writeups, Oklahoma State is not rotating at the wide receiver position, so the trio of Owens, Johnson and Brennan Presley are essentially the only wideouts seeing targets in a given week.

Devaughn Vele, Utah – Saturday was out of necessity but another strong performance from Vele as the Utah passing game showing signs of life finally. 56% of Vele’s receiving yards in 2023 have come in the last three weeks.

Jamaal Pritchett, South Alabama – Four receiving touchdowns in the last two games for Pritchett who’s emerged as a competent running mate with Caullin Lacy at receiver. Over 50% of his receiving production this season as come in the last four games.
