Week 12 Notes & Observations

G5 Notes

  • Akron:  RB Teon Dollard carried the ball 28 times for 202 yards and 4 TDs in the Zips’ 69-35 loss at Kent State.  The junior back has rushed for at least 165 yards in each of the last two games.
  • Kent State: WR Isaiah McKoy has caught a TD pass in three straight games and RB Marquez Cooper has scored 5 rushing TDs in the past two games.
  • Ball State:  RB Caleb Huntley has rushed for at least 100 yards and a TD in each of the Cardinals’ first three games.
  • Western Michigan:  RB Sean Tyler was knocked out of the game against CMU with an injury, so I expect LaDarius Jefferson to get a lot of work this week against Northern Illinois.  WR D’Wayne Eskridge has topped the 100-yard mark and scored at least 1 TD in three straight games.
  • Bowling Green:  RB Terion Stewart has scored 2 TDs in each of the Falcons’ last two games, but all 4 TDs were scored in the 4th quarter of blowout losses.
  • Tulsa:  After rushing for 85-plus yards in three straight games, RB TK Wilkerson only carried the ball 3 times for 9 yards against Tulane
  • Memphis:  QB Brady White failed to throw 3 TD passes in a game for just the second time this season.  He threw a TD and ran for a TD in the Tigers’ 56-14 win against SF Austin.  Five different players scored a rushing TD in Saturday’s blowout win.  WR Calvin Austin has topped the 100-yard mark in five consecutive games.
  • Texas State:  WR Marcel Barbee caught a TD pass in Saturday’s 47-45 win over Arkansas State.  He has now scored in five consecutive games.
  • Coastal Carolina:  TE Isaiah Likely caught a 75-yard TD pass in the Chanticleers 34-23 win over Appalachian State.  It was Likely’s first TD reception since the October 3 game against Arkansas State.
  • Rice:  I haven’t seen why RB Juma Otoviano did not play in Saturday’s game at North Texas.
  • Florida International:  RB D’vonte Price ran for 100 yards in Saturday’s game at Western Kentucky.  The senior back has rushed for at least 100 yards in four of five games this year.
  • Western Kentucky:  In the Hilltoppers’ 38-21 win over FIU, RB Gaej Walker scored a TD for the first time since the season opener against Louisville on September 12.
  • San Diego State: RB Greg Bell failed to top the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time this season against Nevada, but he did extend his scoring streak to five games.
  • Nevada: WR Romeo Doubs has started the 2020 season with five consecutive 100-yard receiving games.  He has also caught a TD pass in every game this season.
  • Cincinnati: QB Desmond Trotter has accounted for 4 or more TDs in five consecutive games.
  • Central Florida:  WR Marlon Williams has caught 8 or more passes in six of eight games this year and has four multiple-TD games.
  • Georgia State:  RB Destin Coates topped the 100-yard rushing mark four times in his first five games of 2020, but he has only totaled 69 yards in the last two games, while teammate Tucker Gregg has totaled 164 yards and 3 TDs over the last two weeks.
  • Boise State:  RB Andrew Van Buren has scored at least one TD in four of five games this year and ran for a season-high 113 yards and scored 2 TDs in the Broncos’ 40-32 win at Hawaii.  However, when George Holani returns, Van Buren will likely take a back seat.  WR Khalil Shakir has caught at least six passes in four of five games this year, has three 100-yard games, and three multi-TD games.
  • Hawaii:  RB Cole Turner has scored a TD in three consecutive games and has scored in four of five games this year.

P5 Notes

  • Louisville:  In Saturday’s win over Syracuse, the Cardinals used a 3-man rotation of Maurice Burkley, Jalen Mitchell, and Hassan Hall.  It would not surprise me to see them use a RBBC approach for the remainder of the season.
  • Purdue: WR Rondale Moore made his season debut Friday night and caught 15 passes for 116 yards and scored a rushing TD.
  • Minnesota:  RB Mohamed Ibrahim has scored 2 or more TDs in 4 of 5 games this year and has scored 3 or more TDs in three of the last four games.
  • Illinois:  RB Mike Epstein has scored a TD in four straight games and RB Chase Brown has rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games.
  • Nebraska: After watching Luke McCaffrey for two games, I’m not sold on him as a passer.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Martinez get another start this soon, if not this week.
  • Indiana:  I’m not incredibly high on QB Michael Penix as a passer, but his numbers would disagree with me.  Against Ohio State, he completed 27-of-51 passes for 491 yards and 5 TDs.  Still, I see a quarterback who has trouble with the intermediate routes, but he’s been on fire with his downfield throws.  WRs Ty Fryfogle, Miles Marshall, and Whop Philyor caught at least 4 passes each against the Buckeyes, and all three of them averaged at least 21.0 yards per catch.
  • Florida:  QB Kyles Trasks’ streak of consecutive games with 4 or more TD passes was snapped in the Gators’ 38-17 win at Vanderbilt.  He threw for 383 yards and 3 TDs.  WR Trevon Grimes has caught a TD pass in four straight games.
  • Vandrbilt:  WR Chris Pierce has caught a TD pass in four consecutive games and WR Cam Johnson has caught at least 7 passes in three of the last four games.
  • BYU:  QB Zach Wilson threw for a season-low 212 yards in the Cougars’ 66-14 win over North Alabama, but he did toss 4 TD passes for the third time in the last five games.  RB Tyler Allgeier extended his scoring streak to seven games on Saturday.
  • Wisconsin:  RB Jalen Berger led the Badgers in rushing against Northwestern, carrying the ball 15 times for 93 yards.  Nakia Watson and Garrett Groshek combined for 14 carries and 36 yards.
  • Oregon:  The Ducks only rushed for 89 yards in their 38-35 win over UCLA.
  • Iowa:  RB Tyler Goodson extended his scoring streak to four games with a rushing TD in the Hawkeyes’ 41-21 win at Penn State
  • Penn State:  WR Jahan Dotson topped the 100-yard mark for the third time in four games and has scored a TD in four of five games.
  • Oregon State:  RB Jermar Jefferson has rushed for at least 120 yards in each of the Beavers’ first three games.
  • Kansas State:  RB Deuce Vaughn has only averaged 38.7 total yards of offense over the last three games and has not scored during that three-game stretch.
  • Alabama:  WR DeVonta Smith has caught 2 or more TD passes in three of the last four games.
  • Auburn:  RB Tank Bigsby suffered an injury in Auburn’s first offensive series of the game against Tennessee.
  • NC State:  RB Zonovan Knight has scored a rushing TD in three consecutive games.
  • Michigan:  QB Cade McNamara might have saved Harbaugh’s job.  Seriously, how does Harbaugh even get on the plane if he loses that game.  McNamara completed 27-of-36 passes for 260 yards and 4 TDs in the Wolverines’ 48-42 3OT win at Rutgers.

  • Oklahoma:  What an end to the season if you happen to own RB Rhamondre Stevenson.  After scoring 5 TDs in his first two games back with the team, the senior back failed to score against Oklahoma State, but he did total 195 yards (141 rushing, 54 receiving).  In PPR formats, he has three consecutive 20+ point games.
  • Oklahoma State:  Unfortunately, RB Chuba Hubbard is limping through the finish line, totaling 14 carries for 75 yards in the Cowboys last two games.
  • Georgia:  QB JT Daniels made his season debut against Mississippi State and completed 28-of-38 passes for 401 yards and 4 TDs in Saturday’s 31-24 win.
  • South Carolina:  One week after scoring 5 TDs against Ole Miss, RB Kevin Harris had his second-worst fantasy week of the season, rushing for only 58 yards in the Gamecocks’ 17-10 loss to Missouri.
  • USC:  Not much rotation in the Trojans’ backfield on Saturday night at Utah.  Senior Vavae Malepeai carried the ball 20 times for 62 yards and a TD.  Kenan Christon and Stephen Carr combined for six rushing attempts.
