WEEK 12 WAIVER WIRE

If you’re reading this, let me start by offering my sincere congratulations for making your College Fantasy Football Championship match! Short and sweet from me today on the Waiver Wire post on the final week of the CFF season, and thanks again to all for an incredible year!

Quarterbacks:

Aidan O’Connell, Purdue – 34+ fantasy points in each of the last three games for O’Connell. Perfect storm here O’Connell performing well, Purdue’s inability to run the football, and receivers stepping up outside of David Bell as Milton Wright had three receiving touchdowns against Northwestern on Saturday. Have to like his chances at home next week against Indiana as the Hoosiers look to have quit on this season.

Jordan Travis, Florida State – 29+ fantasy points in consecutive weeks for Jordan Travis, who is showing the coaching staff he should’ve started all year. And against BC, Travis didn’t even do much with his legs either, as he threw for 251 yards and three scores. On the road again next week, this time against a Florida team that’s been thinking about the beach and the offseason for the last month.

Running Backs:

Sean Tyler, Western Michigan – Been the far more effective runner in the Western Michigan backfield over La’Darius Jefferson, averaging 19.8 FPPG over the last five games. Gets a matchup this week with a Northern Illinois defense that has allowed over 200+ rushing yards in the last three games and 11 rushing TDs over the last four.

Titus Swen, Wyoming – Xazavian Valladay might want to take his shot at the NFL after this season because Swen is going to be RB1 come 2022 for the Cowboys. Averaging over six yards per carry on the season with two 100-yard rushing performances in the last three weeks. Faces a Hawaii run defense next week that has allowed 13 rushing TDs in the last six games.

Carson Steele, Ball State – Beautiful matchup this week for Steele against a Buffalo run defense that is fresh off allowing 300+ yards to Northern Illinois, and allowed 26 rushing touchdowns on the season. Steele is getting ALL the carries in the Ball State backfield and even being utilized as a pass-catcher which we haven’t seen from previous Ball State backs.

Dajon Richard, Southern Miss – That was a beautiful mess we saw from the Southern Miss offense on Friday night, but it was effective as the Eagles rolled up 184 yards on the ground and a double-digit victory over Louisiana Tech. Enticing matchup against a Florida International team that has clearly given up on the season, losing in embarrassing fashion to North Texas, and are 124th in rush yards allowed. We think FIU is going to have much motivation in the final week trying to game plan for this run game? Not me. Best part, Richard – who rushed for 100+ yards on 22 carries – has dual-eligibility on Fantrax as a RB/WR.

Ta’Zhawn Henry, Houston – Alton McCaskill suffered an injury vs. Memphis and my guess is that, even if healthy enough to play next week against Connecticut, the freshman won’t see the field much as an AAC Championship appearance is locked up already. Henry came on in relief, rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, and would get the bulk of the work next weekend if McCaskill sat.

Ellis Merriweather, UMass – Shame on me for thinking Merriweather would struggle against Army. The senior back topped 100-yards for the fourth-straight game, and now closes the year against New Mexico State who ranks 105th against the run.

Wide Receivers:

Puka Nacua, BYU – Moving parts in the BYU receiving corps with Neil Pau’u not playing against Georgia Southern, but the Cougars did get back Gunner Romney. The one constant has been Nacua with five touchdowns in the last five games for with three 100-yard performances in that span. Head coach Kilani Sitake confirmed that Pau’u will also miss this week against USC so expect Nacua to remain the primary target for QB Jaren Hall. 12 percent ownership on Fantrax.

Velus Jones / Cedric Tillman, Tennessee – Tennessee passing offense vs. Vanderbilt. Expect 40 on the scoreboard for the Vols Saturday. Tillman has scored a touchdown in each of the last five games while Jones has six TDs in the last seven.

Gary Bryant Jr. / Tahj Washington, USC – Same story this week as it was the last time we saw USC without Drake London, as the Bryant / Washington duo combined for 24 of the 44 targets vs. UCLA. Didn’t amount to much for Washington who had just 37 yards on four receptions, but the targets (11) were there. Bryant was the headliner with 9-161-1 on 13 targets.

Mac Hippenhammer, Miami (Ohio) – The clear WR2 behind Jack Sorenson, but those two dominate the target share for the RedHawks this season at 53 percent, with Hippenhammer scoring four touchdowns in the last three games. More of a longshot play here, but Miami (Ohio) is going to have to score next week against Kent State to pull off a road victory, and the Flashes do allow the most passing yards per game in the MAC. Miami (Ohio) can only move the football one way, and that’s via the pass.

Tory Horton, Nevada – HC Jay Norvell said it this past week – the Wolfpack are going to sling it the rest of the season as they’ve struggled to run the football consistently. That benefits Horton, who has emerged as the consistent WR2 alongside Romeo Doubs, with double-digit fantasy points in five of the last six games. Averaging eight targets a game in the span.

Beaux Collins, Clemson – Justyn Ross is out for the season and I don’t anticipate Joe Ngata will be in the lineup either. Collins looks to be the go-to option after posting 4-137-1 on six targets, and with no other receiver contributing much in the win over Wake Forest.
