Week 13 Notes & Observations

As we head into the final week of the College Fantasy Football regular season, the content on theCFFsite will be scaled down due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Only a small percentage of owners are still in contention at this point and my goal is to keep this edition short and sweet.  Expect the Waiver Wire piece to be published Sunday night or Monday morning, the Week 14 podcast to be recorded and published by Tuesday night, and the Expanded Player Rankings on Wednesday.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and check back regularly over the next week as I start to organize the Bowl Season fantasy leagues.

Here are my notes and observations as we move into Week 14:

Power 5 Notes

  • Only one P5 team has a bye in Week 14, Southern Cal.
  • The Egg Bowl could be a source of fantasy production, particularly at quarterback with John Rhys Plumlee and Tommy Stevens.
  • Texas QB Sam Ehlinger let down his fantasy owners over the weekend, so thankfully the Longhorns host Texas Tech in their regular season finale.
  • Even though Washington State plays at Washington next week, I still expect a lot of offense from the Cougars.  Richard Newton returned for the Huskies, so I would not be relying on Salvon Ahmed this week.
  • We probably need to be careful overvaluing Georgia RB D’Andre Swift this week against Georgia Tech with the SEC Championship Game the following weekend.
  • I am expecting Ohio State QB Justin Fields to have a better fantasy game next week at Michigan than he did at home against Penn State.
  • I’m really excited for many fantasy owners that jumped on one of my preseason targets, Purdue WR David Bell.  Next week, the Boilermakers host Indiana, and my hope is that Indiana WR Whop Philyor returns for his owners.
  • I don’t expect Clemson to get upset at South Carolina this week, but Clemson will have their eyes on the ACC Championship Game, and with the Gamecocks stuck on four wins, this rivalry game is their Super Bowl.
  • Syracuse-Wake Forest should be a fun game for fantasy owners.
  • Utah RB Zack Moss has been so consistent since his return from injury.  He streak of consecutive games with 2-plus TDs came to an end against Arizona, but he rushed for a season-high 203 yards.
  • The Penn State trio consisting of QB Sean Clifford, WR KJ Hamler, and RB Journey Brown should produce for fantasy owners when the Nittany Lions host Rutgers this week.
  • Tough week upcoming for fanatsy owners having Alabama and Auburn players.

Group 5 Notes

  • This is a great week to have Ohio QB Nathan Rourke.  The Bobcats play Akron and need this win to become bowl eligible.  It’s a great week to have MAC players in general.  As long as the weather is decent, there should be plenty of fantasy points from those games.
  • Memphis RB Kenneth Gainwell was a draft-day gem for me, mainly due to Patrick Taylor’s injury.  However, Taylor’s return almost cost me a spot in the Championship Game in one of my leagues.  This week, Gainwell and Taylor will be difficult ‘start’ decisions against Cincinnati.
  • It should be a great week to own Temple RB Re’Mahn Davis, as Temple hosts UConn.
  • Louisiana has been surprisingly good on defense this season.  It might be wise to stay away from LA Monroe players like QB Caleb Evans and RB Josh Johnson.  I believe TE Josh Pederson is still a decent pick.
  • Thankfully, UMass is on a bye.
