Week 5 Waiver Wire

QUARTERBACKS

Zach Wilson, BYU

Many fantasy owners might have dismissed Wilson’s four-touchdown game against Troy in Week 4, but after his five-touchdown performance against Louisiana Tech on Friday night, he and the BYU offense shouldn’t be ignored.  Wilson has thrown for at least 325 yards in back-to-back games and has now accounted for eleven touchdowns in three games.

Henry Colombi, Texas Tech

In the Red Raiders 31-21 loss at Kansas State, Henry Colombi replaced injured starter Alan Bowman and completed 30-of-42 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns, and added 40 yards on the ground.  Bowman took a nasty hit to the knee, so there is a chance he could be out for an extended period of time, and if that happens, Colombi will shoot up to the top of many fantasy owners’ priority list.  Update 10.5.20–12:15pm:  It has been reported that Bowman is currently listed as day-to-day.

RUNNING BACKS

Kevin Harris, South Carolina

In the Gamecocks’ opener two weeks ago against Tennessee, Kevin Harris ran for 55 yards and a touchdown.  In Saturday’s 38-24 loss at Florida, Harris was even better, as he totaled 127 yards of offense and scored two touchdowns.  The sophomore running back will be a popular waiver option with a matchup against Vanderbilt this week.

Ainias Smith, Texas A&M

In the spring, we learned that Ainias Smith was moved to running back in order to create depth at the position behind starter Isaiah Spiller.  After two games, the sophomore back has been the Aggies top playmaker.  In Saturday’s 52-24 loss at Alabama, Smith totaled 152 yards, 29 rushing and 123 receiving, and scored two touchdowns.

RECEIVERS

Jonathan Mingo, Mississippi

Jonathan Mingo wasn’t a factor in the Rebels’ season opener against Florida, but in Saturday’s 42-41 win at Kentucky, the sophomore receiver hauled in eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.  There is no guarantee that Mingo will be a consistent fantasy option, but in the Ole Miss offense, his potential is too good to pass up when there aren’t many quality waiver options available at the position.

Kearis Jackson, Georgia

Going into the 2020 season, Kearis Jackson wasn’t given a lot of fantasy attention, as the focus was on teammate George Pickens.  After two games, Jackson is the Bulldogs’ leading receiver with 15 receptions and 209 receiving yards.  The redshirt sophomore has yet to catch a touchdown pass, but with as many targets as he is receiving, it’s only a matter of time.
