UCLA

★ Top Play(s) – RB Wayne Knight ($8,000)
Even in a difficult matchup at Oregon, Knight is the UCLA player we’re most comfortable paying up for. Through four games, he’s averaging an absurd 9.1 YPC with 445 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, while adding eight catches for another 88 yards. UCLA does employ a committee at times – Knight is averaging just over 12 carries per game – but he’s topped 100 yards in consecutive games and has scored in every game this season. There’s also some history here, as Knight rushed for 110 yards on 17 carries against Oregon in last year’s CFP while at James Madison. The downside of Knight in this spot is the matchup where Oregon has limited opposing backfields to just 20 FPPG, though Oklahoma State’s Caleb Hawkins had a huge day against the Ducks with 110 yards plus a score.
↓ Fade – RB Anthony Woods ($6,100)
Woods is averaging an impressive 7.4 YPC himself, but $6.1K is difficult to justify in a backfield this crowded. With Knight, Jaivian Thomas being involved and Nico Iamaleava’s 32 rushing attempts also included, there’s too many mouths to feed in what is already a low-upside matchup. Against a team like Oregon on the road, we’d rather spend up for Knight or look elsewhere at running back.
↔ Pivot Play – QB Nico Iamaleava ($6,200)
Nico has surpassed 16 fantasy points just once all season, but he hasn’t had to do anything with the No. 4 rush offense in the entire country as UCLA has blown the doors off most of their opponents. He’ll have to do more this week as a 12.5-point underdog, but the price and matchup is where we’re interested. Oregon’s secondary has been sub-par, allowing over 26 FPPG to quarterbacks this season. We only projected 14.6 points at theCFFSite, but if we can get 20 from Nico, that pays off his salary.
+ Best of the Rest – WRs.
This is a low-volume pass offense – ranked 118th in the country in pass play percentage – and there’s no established WR1 between WR Brian Rowe Jr. ($4,700), WR Semaj Morgan ($4,900) or WR Landon Ellis ($4,000). Aka, this isn’t a spot that interests us that much. That said, UCLA should be in a trailing position, and the Ducks have allowed multiple 100-yard receiving performances already to Wyatt Young and Kayden Dixon-Wyatt.
! Injury Notes –
WR Mikey Matthews (Out)

Oregon

★ Top Play(s) – RB Jordon Davison ($7,000) or RB Dierre Hill ($7,300)
UCLA is 16th nationally at defending the run, but those numbers are boosted significantly from having faced Purdue (130th) and Maryland (88th) so far in B1G play. Davison has been our preferred choice typically, leading the Ducks with five touchdowns, but our interest has grown with Hill since his Week 4 performance against USC. Hill scored twice on the ground and now has nearly as many red-zone rushing attempts (10) as his counterpart Davison (11). Hill was also unleashed in the passing game with Dylan Raiola at QB with 105 receiving yards vs. the Trojans.
↓ Fade – Backups.
Hill and Davison were the only RBs to carry the ball against USC two weeks ago. And the only players targeted against the Trojans in the passing game were the starting receivers, starting tight end and the two running backs. Oregon doesn’t rotate on offense.
↔ Pivot Play – QB Dylan Raiola ($6,900)
Indications so far are that Dante Moore may need another week or two to recover from the nasty hit he took against USC, though he is back at practice in some capacity. There isn’t a substantial downgrade from Moore to Raiola as we saw against USC, completing 76% of his throws for 289 yards and two scores. We also get a discounted price from where Moore is typically listed. UCLA is giving up just 9.5 FPPG to quarterbacks so far, though the early portion of the schedule has been a breeze, facing a few of the worst passing teams in the country.
$ Bargain Bin – WR Messiah Hampton ($4,200)
Hampton is the Jeremiah McClellan replacement in the starting lineup, and there isn’t really a noticeable downgrade either. Hampton has reeled in 14 receptions in three games and is a strong salary-saving option if you can’t spend up for WR Dakorien Moore ($5,600) or WR Evan Stewart ($6,000).
+ Best of the Rest – TE Jamari Johnson ($5,000)
Johnson made his return from injury and was an immediate impact, hauling in all seven of his targets for 119 yards vs. USC. The connection was consistent all night against the Trojans between he and Dylan Raiola. Tight ends are averaging nearly 12 FPPG against UCLA this season with both Mason Mini (Cal) and George Burhenn (Purdue) catching touchdowns in their respective matchups with the Bruins. We considered Johnson as one of the top plays for the Ducks.
! Injury Notes –
QB Dante Moore (Questionable), WR Jeremiah McClellan (Doubtful)
