IMPLIED SCORE
Alabama 26.5 – Georgia 24
WEATHER
69 degrees / 79% rain / 15 mph winds
Georgia
★ Top Play(s) – QB Gunner Stockton ($8,000)
This just feels like a Gunner Stockton game for the Dawgs. Last game against Alabama as a senior. Primetime. Depleted backfield for Georgia. Stockton hasn’t had to do much in the early part of the season facing a cupcake schedule but had to rev it up some last week against Vanderbilt, throwing for 295 yards and three touchdowns in the 38-14 win. We anticipate double-digit rushing attempts from Stockton tonight. Alabama is only allowing 14.9 FPPG to quarterbacks this season but did give up three passing touchdowns to Kamario Taylor before he left injured last week and allowed 30+ fantasy points to Ashton Daniels a few weeks back.
↓ Fade – WR Sacovie White-Helton ($4,500)
I wanted to highlight a slot receiver here given what we saw Anthony Evans do to this Alabama secondary a week ago. But SWH seems to be losing a hold on this job, ceding snaps to WR Craig Dandridge ($3,000) who ran the second most routes of any UGA receiver against Vanderbilt last week. We’d punt to Dandridge and save the $1.5k instead of SWH.
↔ Pivot Play – RB Nate Frazier ($6,500)
Frazier had the week off recovering from the injury suffered against Arkansas. Is he 100% healthy? If so, he’s playable this week with backup Chauncey Bowens confirmed out due to injury. That said, this is a dominant Alabama run defense, ranked 10th in rush D success rate, 3rd in line yards, 9th in stuff rate, and limiting backfields to just 14.7 FPPG.Hence, why we have Stockton as the best option for UGA.
$ Bargain Bin – A Georgia Receiver.
I can’t even keep a straight face writing this up. Unless you’re a diehard Georgia fan, or spoke to Kirby Smart last night, how can you even confidently choose a UGA receiver to roster each week. WR Talyn Taylor ($4,800) leading the team with three touchdowns and 176 receiving yards but has just 13% of the team’s target share. Georgia has 16 passing touchdowns this season caught by 13 different players. Playing Stockton solo is your best bet.
+ Best of the Rest – RB Dwight Phillips ($4,800)
Cheaper way to get exposure to the UGA backfield than to spend up for Nate Frazier who still may not be 100%. Phillips will be the RB2 on Saturday with Bowens out of the lineup and is electric in the passing game as a receiver as shown last week with 75 yards and a TD on five catches.
! Injury Notes –
WR Isiah Canion (Out), RB Chauncey Bowens (Out)
Alabama
★ Top Play(s) – An Alabama WR.
Isaiah Sategna had 81 yards on eight receptions. Arkansas’ Chris Marshall had 136 yards on seven catches. And just last week Vanderbilt’s Junior Sherrill broke off a long touchdown grab to finish with over 100 yards on seven receptions. Those were all passing game scripts with those teams down big, but can we trust the UGA secondary? The Dawgs are 85th in explosive pass plays allowed this season. Both WR Ryan Coleman-Williams ($7,500) and WR Lotzeir Brooks ($6,500) are averaging over 16 yards per catch. We envision someone having a big day here.Between those two and WR Rico Scott ($4,300), the trio combines for 64% of Alabama’s receiving production.
↓ Fade – RB Daniel Hill ($5,600)
There’s a chance Alabama leans on its veteran back in a matchup of this magnitude, but it certainly feels like the coaching staff is ready to hand the keys to its underclassmen, who have simply been more explosive with the ball in their hands. RB Trae’shawn Brown ($6,000) handled bell cow duties last week against Mississippi State, rushing for 66 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Meanwhile, RB EJ Crowell ($4,700) needed just three carries to flash his upside and is now averaging an impressive 7.8 YPC on the season. The talent is certainly intriguing, but there’s also a legitimate argument for fading the entire Alabama backfield, as Georgia has surrendered just 11.1 FPPG to opposing running backs this season. Between the uncertain workload distribution and a brutal matchup, this could be a backfield better left untouched in DFS.
↔ Pivot Play – QB Keelon Russell ($9,000)
This feels like a slate that we do not spend more than $8k on a quarterback with the top-end options all being in tough matchups, along with potentially bad weather conditions. But as we saw last week, Russell is ready for the moment, scoring 31 fantasy points in the blowout of Mississippi State. Russell continues to grow, completing over 70% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions in the last three games. It’s the matchup that prevents us from making Russell the top play where Georgia only gives up around 15 fantasy points a contest to quarterbacks. The counterargument to play Russell? Georgia has beaten up on Vanderbilt’s backup QB, two inept SEC offenses in Arkansas and Oklahoma, along with Western Kentucky.
$ Bargain Bin – TE Marshall Pritchett ($3,300)
Got caught with our hands in the cookie jar last week in saying that Vanderbilt’s TE Jayvontay Conner could be a potential option against Georgia. His stat-line? 0-0-0. Well, the point still stands that Georgia has been susceptible to allowing fantasy points (13.5 FPPG) to opposing tight ends, and Pritchett has made some plays in recent weeks with two catches in each of the last three games. Pritchett is averaging 44 receiving yards per game in three SEC contests.
