IMPLIED SCORE
Texas 29 – Mississippi 25.5
WEATHER
82 degrees / 1% rain / 5 mph winds
Mississippi
★ Top Play(s) – QB Trinidad Chambliss ($9,000)
Chambliss gets top billing for Ole Miss because of his consistency, scoring 26 or more fantasy points in all but one game this season – the matchup with Charlotte where he barely played in the second half. The high-level numbers show we should fade Chambliss against a Texas defense that allows under 10 FPPG to quarterbacks this season. We also just saw a first-time starter for Florida who threw for two touchdowns and looked comfortable against this Longhorn secondary.
↓ Fade – TE Luke Hasz ($3,200)
Hasz plays 67% of the team’s offensive snaps but is the blocking tight end of the group. Just a single catch with under 10 yards receiving in four games this season.
↔ Pivot Play – RB Kewan Lacy ($7,600)
Lacy looked pretty healthy last week against Missouri, rushing for 122 yards on 16 carries in the blowout victory. We gave Chambliss the nod for the top play with Ole Miss being a 3.5-point underdog in this matchup, so potentially a more passing game script, but can see a world where Lacy is the focal point of the offense. Texas is reeling, without their best front seven defender, and gave up 95 yards and a score last week to Florida’s Jadan Baugh. One additional note to consider – Ole Miss will be without at least one starting offensive lineman due to injury, potentially two.
$ Bargain Bin – TE Caleb Odom ($4,400)
Debated Odom as Ole Miss’ top play with three or more catches in all five games played this season. Odom scored his second touchdown of the year against Missouri last week, and we just saw this Texas defense allow two receiving scores to a no-name Florida tight end last Saturday.
+ Best of the Rest – WR Deuce Alexander ($7,500)
Don’t expect to see Alexander have much ownership at this salary coming off a down week with just 20 yards receiving against Missouri. Alexander was still targeted nine times on the day and has scored a touchdown in four of six games. We’ve seen boundary receivers succeed against this Longhorn secondary this year with Jeremiah Smith (8-164-1) and Mike Matthews (4-72-1).
Texas
★ Top Play(s) – RB Raleek Brown ($5,000)
All you have to do is go look back the last time that Hollywood Smothers was out due to injury. Brown carried the rock 17 times for 67 yards and a pair of scores on the road at Tennessee. Ole Miss currently allows the most rushing yards per game in the SEC. Expect Brown to have some of the highest ownership on the slate.
↓ Fade – QB Arch Manning ($7,200)
Manning was chalky last week against a terrible Florida secondary and got us a resounding nine fantasy points. Ownership will be significantly lower if that intrigues you, but the numbers are ugly. Texas is going three-and-out on 34% of drives and Manning’s rush usage is almost non-existent outside of sacks. Ole Miss is only giving up 16 FPPG to quarterbacks this season.
↔ Pivot Play – RB Derrek Cooper ($4,200)
There have been calls from the Texas fanbase to get the 5-star freshman more involved in the game plan since the OU game where he looked explosive with 41 yards on eight attempts. With Smothers out, and Raleek Brown averaging just 4.3 YPC this season, there’s a pathway for Cooper to see more involvement. This would be the strongest way to pivot off the chalk that will be Raleek Brown.
$ Bargain Bin – WR Jermaine Bishop ($3,400)
Bishop’s 35% snaps played last week vs. Florida was the most he’s seen all year, converting on all three of his targets. This is just one week after finding the endzone against Oklahoma. Bishop is a nice way to get exposure to the Texas passing game without spending an arm and a leg.
+ Best of the Rest – WRs.
Like Arch, expect this entire group to see significantly less ownership after flopping last week. No wideout scored more than 15 fantasy points against a Florida secondary that was allowing over 50 combined fantasy points per game to opposing team’s receivers. If forced to choose, we’re looking at WR Cam Coleman ($6,600) or WR Ryan Wingo ($5,500) after seeing what Missouri’s Donovan Olugbode (9-127-0) did against this Ole Miss secondary a week ago.
! Injury Notes –
RB Hollywood Smothers (Doubtful)
